Houston is going to be just fine. Galveston, on the other hand, might be majorly clucked.

I suspect this thing is going to pull a Rita and continue edging towards Port Arthur - Beaumont. Those cities are probably clucked, regardless.

Not so sure dude... last time Rita pulled eastward a full day before landfall... I remember skipping town 8 hrs or so before the storm was supposed to make landfall, and we already knew we were going to be on the "clean side" and it wasn't going to hit us directly. As far as I can tell it is still projected to go straight through the city with 80-90 MPH winds. Yikes.

As far as Galvaston is concerned... the NWS issued a strong warning for residents of coastal communities that included phrases like "RISK CERTAIN DEATH" for those who chose not to evacuate.

Yeah, my Rita prediction has fallen flat. Looks like we're going to take this one on the chin. Galveston is seriously screwed, particularly the western part of the island beyond seawall protection. There will be some bodies before this is all over. Hell, even The Strand is flooding, and that's bad news.

Right now I'm just hoping that the eye slips to the east of me; winds from the north would be favorable given my apartment's orientation. My only real fear is that I'll have a window break in the middle of the night, which will be a huge pain in my arse.
