So what have you guys thought of your experiences with the texas schools on interview day? I'm curious to hear where people have interviewed, what they thought of the schools and how the actual interviews went.

It's been 5 weeks and nothing from galveston, UT-Houston, or A&M...I at least expected something quicker from galveston or A&M, given my profile.
Anyone know if this is okay?? Am I just being paranoid??

At least San Antonio thought me worthy of an interview 😀. I'm happy about it.
(except for the travel expenses part 🙁 ) But I'll let you guys know how it went after I'm done.

it seems like the interviews are completely random -- i've heard people getting 1 or 2 and nothing else etc. just weird... here's what i've had so far...

tcom -- nice facilities, 2nd interviewer told me that academics were just ok which makes me concerned...

houston -- was really surprised how much i liked it, interviews VERY laid back, students seemed to love it

a&m -- not sure about how good the academics are compared to everyone elses 1st and 2nd year but clinical rotation seems amazing with scott and white being a top 15 teaching hospital. 1 interview was very laid back, the other was pretty rough

galveston -- pretty disappointed after hearing so many great things about the school. interviews were both very strange. facilities were great and academics seemed great. not sure about 3rd and 4th year experience

anyone else have any comments?

Houston - Faculty and students were very friendly, TMC is very nice, the surroundings seem safe, and so far it's been my favorite.

Dallas - I didn't like it. The students didn't seem too enthusiastic, I practically had to sprint during the tour and our tourguide was not knowledgeable at all, and I don't like the bell curve. However, I think the actual interviews were probably my best out of all so far.

San Antonio - Medical facilities are excellent, plenty of opportunities to do rotations down in the Valley, students and faculty seemed friendly. I like the city since I've lived here almost all my life so maybe I'm biased. It's a really cool place to live.

Galveston - I agree, the interviews were weird. They didn't provide enough information about the hospitals so I'm also clueless about the quality of the rotations. It looks like they have plenty of standardized patient contact and the USMLE scores are excellent there so the PBL system must be working. However, I also found the overall experience a little disappointing.

I'm sorry your experience at Southwestern was not so great. I think we're just a little bit stressed out because we have a really early biochem test just around the corner. Hopefully, that will change 🙂

I dunno about you, Blinky, but I'm so stressed from the stress of having to sabotage our classmates to keep them from making better grades than me, since that's what we at SW do. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm heading to the anatomy lab to mess up everyone else's cadavers...

;-D

No need to mock people for posting their opinions. I appreciate people posting their candid opinions on here, and I'm sure that they would appreciate less sarcasm.
