I hope this makes reads correct, and is not a stupid question.

Pre med student interviews at schools (a), (b), and (c).

School (a) interview went okay = choice #1
School (b) interview went okay = choice #2
School (c) inteview went great = choice of school#3

School (a) takes say 100 students
School (b) take say 75 students
School (c) takes only say 40 students

If only school that the student matches is school (c) is likely that the 40 students the school accepts are the students that rank school (c) #1 on their match list?

I hope that I have explained this right 😉 That is why my wife is applying to school, not me! 😀 She got the brains, all I got was more questions 😀

Well anyway, I was curious how the match system worked in Texas. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Sorry🙁 My mistake. Forgive me, I am new at this 🙂

I tried answering this a minute ago, and my connection timed out, so sorry if this is shorter...

It doesn't matter what number your wife puts the school. The system just matches you with the highest school that wants you. It doesn't matter if #300 people put that school as #1 and your wife has it has #3. If she doesn't get her first two choices, it won't hurt her chances of getting school #3 if they choose her for their program. The schools never know how you rank them. Basically the match system favors the applicant. You rank the schools by your preference. The schools know this and that is why they submit a list longer than the number of spaces available. From previous experience in other years, they know how many applicants they need to send to the match service in order to get the number of matches they need to fill their class. Anyone else out there who can explain it better?

why do you say that??

I say that because the applicant is not penalized for putting another school as their first choice. If they place the school they actually get accepted to as their second choice instead of their first, it doesn't hinder their overall chances of actually getting accepted into that school they rated second. That is what I meant. It is not like a big mind game everyone makes it out to be. You rank the schools you want to go to the best at the top of the list. You don't rank the schools you think you are going to be accepted to. It is okay if you interviewed at the place you think you have a long shot in getting into. You can still rank it one, and if you don't get in, it won't hurt any of the overall chances of the other schools that ranked you. That is what I meant. It is hard to explain with words. It is better with diagrams.

.02 - Thanks for the info!!That was what I was wondering. THANKS AGAIN!👍

During this application season, I had believed the match system worked like previously described. However, yesterday I interviewed at Texas Tech. During the Q&A session, one lady that works at tech said that it is impossible for anyone to match with their fourth choice school. She said that only the top three choices matter. She said this is not a widely known fact. All the applicants were incredibly confused. Has anyone heard anything about this?

perhaps because people get into one of their top 3 schools the majority of the time
dunno.gif

that or she just pulled that out of her ass

My friend was at the Tech interview yesterday as well, and called me when she was at the airport confused about what was said at the interview too, which in turn confused me. My friend said, as Tuesday posted, that some admissions lady said it is IMPOSSIBLE to match to any school one ranks fourth or lower. Is this right? Anyone know about this? It doesn't make much sense to me because I believe I know someone from 3 years ago that ranked TCOM 4th in his list and Matched to TCOM on February 1st.

You can match to your fourth...or fifth school as my friends have done in the past

My best friend matched at her fifth choice.

i ranked texas tech 6th, and thats where i matched..

Is it really that common for people to not match with their first three matches. I didn't think most people matched with their 5th and 6th choices. From those that did, why do you think it happened? Was it numbers, LOR, personal statement, interview? I was just wondering.

Merry Christmas to all!

i think i matched 6th for a variety of reasons

at southwestern, i didnt get any sleep the night before my eyes were all red and ****, so i didnt feel like i had good intervieiws. i was zoning out while one of my interviewers was talking, it was a really bad experieince. ended up getting waitlisted.

at baylor, i totally screwed up one of my interviews and i guess i was intimidated from all the super smart people there, so i bailed at like 4 o clock and skipped dinner, and guess what they found out i skipped the tour and dinner.. ahhahahaha didnt get in there

at san antonio, and at ut-houston they basically didnt take me seriously, they kept treating me like my first choice was baylor, and southwestern and i automatically didnt want to go there schools;

at texas a&m , they basically questioned my motivation to be a doctor cuz i was a MIS major, and i wasnt a science major. I have all this computer programming experiince but limited hospital experience.

at utmb, one of the doctors didnt even interview me, I think it was discrimination, he made me sit out there for 40 minutes, and then interiviewed me for like 2 minutes and dismissed me early. I just thought he was a prick to everyone, but later i found out that he interiviewed all the other people for a full hour. I happen to be muslim so i have been getting screwed with alot since 9/11.
so... i guess thats y i didnt get in there.

at texas tech, they loved me and they basically wanted me to do there md/mba program. i never did that cuz i thought i was gonna get into baylor or southwestern ahhahaha so anyways, i know atleast texas tech like business majors.

well, to all of u interviewees out there, i guess give the schools inpression that u only wanna go there. make up some **** like u ahve family in that town or something becase if they feel like u are gonna go somewhere else, they might not take u seriously and pick someone else.

lastly, texas med schools are pretty competittive to get in. just because u got good stats, doesnt gurantee where u get in, u just gotta pray u get in. i had some friends who had good stats and didnt get in, and that made me thankful i matched... even if it was my 6th choice

this is great advice 🙂 you would be surprised how many people with 30+ MCATs don't match.
