Hi Everyone,

I have a couple questions.. can someone please respond.

1. Is it true that Texas med schools give preference to minorities and others have a minimal chance to get in?

2. Where can I find a list of all minority med schools?

3. Currently I'm doing my pre req's at UH, if I did the pre req's at Rice Univ or Baylor, would that increase my chances of getting into TX med school? Or bottom line is GPA and MCAT and which Univ I do my pre req's from does not matter??!!

4. On a couple threads I read about SGU school. What is it? A med school? If so, where is it?

thank you all!

1. I'm pretty sure that is false, I worked at TAMHSC this summer and there were plenty of students that weren't minorities.

2. No clue.

3. First off I don't know why you are putting Baylor and Rice in the same group, secondly I would think if you perform highly at UH you'll be fine.

4. Never heard of SGU.

Hope those two answers help!

1. Some Texas schools give more preference than others. I know UTMB is a very strong recruiter of URM's and so is UTSA (or whatever it is called). Baylor does a great job of recruiting minority applicants as well (their standards are much higher however).

2. www.aamc.org

3. Not necessarily. However, I do know that the UT schools (and Baylor to an extent) drool over Rice students (yayyyyyyy go owls!!!....lol). But in the end MCAT and GPA are weighted much more heavily that school of attendance

4. I think the SGU to which they are refering is St. Georges University...but don't quote me on that...since I have not actually seen the context from which you took that acronym....anyways, that SGU is in the carribean somewhere....yah mon...it is a med school...but I would personally avoid going to school out there b/c they are not well respected on the mainland.

best of luck to ya!!!

Is UTMB the med school in Houston? When u say "very strong recruiter of URM's", sorry but what is URM?

Also do you mean that non minorities have a low chance to get into Texas med schools?

utmb is in galveston. uth is the med school in houston.

URM = underrepresented minority = blacks/hispanics/native americans/(anyone not asian or white)
