Hello there!

I am a TX resident with decent ECs and rec letters. I attend a top 20 school according to US News.
My stats: 3.93 cGPA, 3.88 sGPA, 31 MCAT (10, 11, 10)

I am currently applying to all of the texas public schools through TMDSAS and Baylor through AMCAS. I don't mind going to any of these schools.

1)Should I apply out of state?
2) If so, which out of state schools should I apply to as a Texas resident with these stats?
3)Any comments/suggestions on school list/ interview tips?

Thank you!

1) Doing so seems unlikely to be productive as OOS schools know you are far more likely to attend an in-state school with its highly attractive, relatively-lower tuition.

2) If there were a school with some special attraction that would cause you to attend regardless of cost, like a focus on global medicine, availability of a nearby strong (family) support system, the offer of a combined degree not available in Texas, or an attractive research opportunity with a PI focusing on a project similar to one in which you already have expertise, then that would be a school to consider adding.

Last year, out of 3844 IS applicants, only 185 matriculated OOS! This is why we quit trying. TX applicants will always stay IS unless we can offer them big $. If you believe you are recruitment material at an OOS school, go right ahead and apply. Otherwise enjoy the high IS acceptance rate and low tuition.

Thank you so much for the replies! I guess I will stick with my IS Texas schools. Would you happen to know how long it takes to receive interview invites after submitting applications? I have only received an interview invite so far from San Antonio and I was wondering what the average wait period is between submission and interview invites?

Can I ask you how long ago you submitted TMDSAS? Out of every school in the nation, I just want to get into San Antonio. Mine is still processing.

The MCAT is lethal for Baylor. Aim for low-tier schools. MSAR Online is your friend.

You're likely to get IIs from most of the other schools. Houston and UTSW are somewhat less likely; Baylor's a long shot. The rest are likely.

I submitted my TMDSAS on 6/16. It transmitted on 7/7.

I should have mentioned that I have taken the MCAT twice. The first time I got a 31 (11PS 8V 12BS) and the second time 31 (10PS 11V 10 BS). Unfortunately, I did not improve my score, and I know that I could have done better. I raised my verbal, but my other scores dropped off because I concentrated less on the sciences the second time around.

Does anyone have any idea about what this will do to my chances? Will texas schools usually take my most recent score, or average them together? I am assuming that they don't superscore, but I wish they did. Thanks for the help!

Double 31s will probably communicate that you're a 31-level MCAT taker -- which is fine. No need to worry --
