So I've been researching and researching for about 4 hours now on Texas residency and the things needed, or required rather, to obtain the title.

To better explain the situation, I currently live in Louisiana and attend a University about 30 minutes from the Texas border. I'm trying to figure out a way for me to become a Texas resident within the next 2-3 years so I can have a better chance at the Texas schools as an "in-state student." My birth mom and dad are currently separated and re-married, however, my Mom lives in Louisiana and my Dad lives in Texas and has been for almost 10 years I believe.

I know there are other amazing schools out there, but for the time being I have my heart set on some of the school in Texas, so if anyone has any insight on helping me figure this out I would highly appreciate it!

Why don't you use your dad's address as your permanent address?

So like him claiming me on his taxes as a dependent maybe? Or just his address in general? Would it seem odd that I went to a school in Louisiana, but I also "live" in Houston?

Yes, if your father has lived in Texas for over 12 months and files you as his dependent you should be good. And I don't think that matters, you can say your permanent residence is in Texas and you went to college in Louisiana. I assume you're paying in-state tutition in Louisiana ?
