Texas-TCOM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Quick note;

I interviewed yesterday at UTHSCSA and while I was there I received a voice message with the offer to interview at TCOM.

I called back today and was able to pick next Tuesday or next Friday for an interview. I will have to cut my vacation short next week but I will be in Fort Worth next Friday!!!

Yes, humble pie DOES taste good!

Does anyone know what happens if TCOM is unable to reach you by phone?

They left me a message at work on last Thursday and then called my cell on Monday. I don't know if they actually send you anything by snail mail or e-mail.

Bump...what are peoples thoughts today on UNT-TCOM? Who's ready to jump at the chance with the Texas-Match coming up?

I sure am, but I am starting to get really really nervous that I won't match there, though it's my first choice. Waiting SUCKS.

Yes...I've noticed your recent post here and you do sound like you are starting to freak out...wondering about # of interviews vs acceptance rate and all that junk...just don't worry about it so much. If you have to reapply, just try again.

Is there reason that you can think of for why you are so nervous? Having 4 interviews is a great accomplishment in itself. Just curious.

I'm freaking out because I really would like to attend TCOM over the other schools, and I know that they can be just as competetive as any of the other Texas in schools. Also for my wife, I would like to be able to keep her near to her job and family.

---statistically
approximately: TCOM140+TTech145+TA&M70+UTMB150= approximately 505 spots (I'm not sure if all those numbers are exactly accurate).

Which means that I have about a 5 in 8 chance, but considering out of staters that probably bumps me down to about a 50/50 chance of getting in somewhere. That's like a coin toss (which would make anyone nervous if it dictated their future)

OH Well...I guess there's really no reason to freak...cause I can't do anything bout it now.

:wow:

Yeah don't worry about it so much...give it over to God or your higher power or whatever and believe that there is perfect timing for you that is meant to be. When you are ready it will all work out just fine. I think you have a good chance of getting in somewhere. Best wishes.

Just a few more days and counting!! I can't wait to hear where all of you match, and I can't wait to hear who got TCOM! Good luck and make sure you post at 12:05AM on the 1st.

Matt

Hey Thanks: Good luck to you too. From the looks of things, it seems that you're pulling for TCOM as well---hopefully we'll be classmates.

Hey I'm also dissapointed that no one has tried to figure out what my signature means....

Sorry, I should have clarified myself to explain that I am already a 2nd year at TCOM. I will be a 3rd year when you guys show up, but I still get excited watching all you guys get pumped up each year. I remember staying up until midnight on match night and how terribly hard it was to click that mouse to get the answer!! It was quite a great feeling when I saw "Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine" under my match since it had been my first choice. I was just scared there wouldn't be anything under the match spot!

I spoke to Diane (extremely nice and helpful 🙂 ) last week and she said Ms. Anderson would be retiring soon. Either the end of January or about one month from my conversation with Diane.

I'm also a second year at TCOM and lt me say I feel your pain about med school interviews in general. I was quickly offered an interview and got into allopathic and ostepathic schools except for AZCOM and UTMB, who both basically blew me off TOTALLY- both are less selective than schools I got into. TCOM I think takes Texas ties seriuosly in the admissions process, I've heard of short term- texas residents not getting interviews but then getting accepted out of state. We are very much a primary care school and quite frankly we have a lot of people here who scored low-mid twenties on their MCAT, could not get interviews at UT-Houston but will make good family docs. TCOM students are a very mature and studious lot- which is both a function of osteopathy's focus on life experience over high MCATS and our location smack in the bible belt- maybe also some self-selection involved since the 21 year old set on having "MD" on his jacket is usually gona look at Southwestern first and the caribbean second. THe only thing I can say is that if you have good grades and MCATS, andyou are REALLY seriuos about TCOM apply early decision, the whole apply by August thing is really overblown- if you are a strong candiate you will still have time to get interviews if your ED school rejects you.

I have a friend who went to school with me at UTSA who is in your class at TCOM...she loves the school and keeps telling me not to freak out as match approaches. We talked about the two profs I interviewed with and she thinks that if everything went well then I shouldn't worry too much. I really enjoyed my time at TCOM and look forward to the challenges ahead if that is where the Lord leads me. It is all going to work out great no matter what!!! Thanks for the encouragement from all the TCOM MS's.

Just wanted to drop in a line for no apparent reason....Not long to go.....grrrrrrrr:meanie:

You guys hang in there.

I remember this week last year. It was the longest week of my life. Then January 31 was the longest DAY of my life. 10:30-11:30 pm was the longest HOUR of my life...well, you get the picture.

Try to go out and do something fun on the 31st--go see a movie or something--something long like Lord of the Rings, something that will just take you to another place entirely. Then come home, surround yourself with people who love you, and click that mouse. Then post to SDN and tell us the news!

Best of luck!

Well...we made it! congrats everyone!!!
