Is anyone else asking money for Christmas so you can buy your text books?!! jk...

I just added mine up according to amazon.com... and its going to be a whooping 400 bucks! All i can say is Thank goodness we're having OT at work. Gotta get this money somewhere!

Does anyone know of other websites to look for used books?!

Congrats to everyone who was accepted!

One more question.. are any of your schools having a "white coat ceremony?" Orientation is going to consist of a whole day of events then a separate day of the ceremony. I'm kind of getting excited for all this.. it sounds like they're making a big deal about their incoming students!

I always, always, always buy my textbooks off of the internet. I have gotten the best deals on ebay and bigwords.com... I HATE how expensive textbooks are!!!!!

One piece of advice if you are going to buy your books online, make sure that the information posted on amazon matches that of the book available through the bookstore. One of my roommates purchased an international edition of a book instead of the U.S. edition. Nothing serious, it was the same book, just some of the information was on different pages. Save yourself a headache and make sure they match up!!

I don't know if this will work in pharm school, but in undergrad, I always bought the previous edition. For example if 7th edition was required. I would buy the 6th. You can usually pick up those for about $5, and the differences are really minor.

Does anyone know if the isbn numbers are specific to a certain book, or do the international and low cost (black & white) additions have the same #?

That works for many classes. It's always best to check that the professor is not assigning specific end-of-chapter questions as part of the grade. The questions almost always change from old to new editions.

But, yeah, I've saved money in the long-run from buying online. I only got burned once from the experience with a book that needed rubberbands to hold it together and was actually 2 editions out of date.

Before you buy, ask around if you really need the book. Many professors give out handouts with all the needed information, and so, a book is not needed.

Yes - they will be specific to a certain book and edition - they may be similar from edition to edition, but will not be exactly the same.

I've had good luck several times with ecampus.com for textbooks.

Yes, my school is going to have a white coat ceremony - it will actually be the day before orientation starts, so it's the very first thing we do as a class together.

as others have said, don't jump in and buy them all before you are 100% sure you need them.

Pitt sent us a list of 'required' texts before our P1 year. Many of them were never used, or better yet the addition changed even before the book was needed years later.

i always try half.com before anything else

Go to google, type in ISBN #.... that usually will give you quite a few choices.
