Can someone PLEASE explain to me why the answer is D instead of A?

If I use line counting A and D have the same number of lines. Or am I counting it wrong?

From the end view, you can see that there are two dashed lines that extend all the way across the figure. That must also be reflected in the answer from the top view. That eliminates A

The difference is the length of the lines.
