hey every one ...

am a new member in SDN forums ...
& i liked it soooo much ..

am a 2nd level medical student nd i gotta offer a research about thalassaemia by the end of this semester ...

so i need ur help coz am really confused a little...

when i make an interview with a patient i gotta ask him some questions . right ?

but the problem is that i dunno what kinda questions i've to ask him/her !!!🙁

sooo plz help me

I don't see how anybody can help you without reviewing your research protocol and proposal. It sounds like the best person to approach about your question is the actual principle investigator of your research project. That's my recommendation. I'm confused as to how you are going to do this project without consulting with the other investigators and how you agreed to do this project knowing absolutely nothing about it. Didn't you at least review the proposal, or talk to the investigators, or are you asking us to design an independent project for you? If it's the former and you are not familiar with the project, go talk to the people in charge, otherwise, do some reading on clinical research design, read the latest literature on your topic, and come up with a hypothesis you want to test, then consult with some seasoned investigators on how to proceed.

Other than that, if you know nothing else (which would be very highly irregular), I'd start with your standard H & P and go from there. Maybe you didn't explain yourself fully, but how did you end up having to interview patients without having an idea of what you are testing and how to do it?

dear spicedmanna

i really appreciate ur reply

but am sure u didn't understand me completely ...

so this disease >>> i know alot about it
but this research project is really hard 2 b done

i'll put ya in da pic

in our university each student should offer a research "am at 2nd level"

every one should select any disease an search about ...

we should meet da patients involved and ask them personal questions in particular about their behaviour and dealin wid their disease >>>>>
"and that wut i asked for (these questions)"

as well as we should make interviews wid specialist doctors nd we should revise the hospital reports about the disease i search for

i hope u got da pic completely now

and if u dnt mind help me selecting my research disease

and if u have any data relating to it , i would b grateful

thnx again

I see. It sounds like a school assignment of some sort. I thought you were talking about an actual research gig. In general, these forums are not for homework help. I'd suggest talking to your professor and asking him or her for help, or some guidance, in beginning your assignment.

I don't know if these will help at all, in terms of getting a soc hx:

"How is/has this condition, disease, or syndrome impacting/impacted your life?" "Those around you: your friends and family?"

"What is the most painful/worst aspect about your disorder?"

"How do you cope with your condition?" "What do you use as your support system?"

"What was your reaction when you first found out?" "If you were very young when you were diagnosed, what were the reactions of your parents, or siblings (if you know)?" "How has your/their perception changed over time?"

"Are there any modifications you need to make in your life as a result of your condition?" "If so, what are they?"

"What is your experience with the medical care you are receiving for your condition?" "Is there anything you wish were different about the care you are receiving?"

"Take me through a typical day..."

"What is your faith (if you are religious)?" "How is your faith helping you deal with your condition, if at all?" "How does your faith make sense of your condition?" "How do you reconcile any differences you might have with that view, if it differs from your own?"

etc...

Ali G, is that you?? When did you enroll in medical school?

thnx 4 every one 🙂

I cannot imagine why anyone would have difficulty understanding you. Your post makes slightly more sense than a PCP fueled monkey pounding his detached testicles on a keyboard.

Oh man, you SO get a cookie for that one.

While you are doing Ali G's research for him can someone learn Heme/Onc for me?

You are way too nice. I wouldn't have given him the information. He (or she) should be researching it on his own.

Why don't you try writing in standard english for one thing. I started reading your post and quit when I realized it took more effort to understand it than it's worth. Try writing more like a medical student of "second level," whatever the hell that means, and less like a dumb, pre-adolescent girl itching for hannah montana tickets and a "boyfriend" who will leave her pregnant at 14 and make her into a statistic. ugh, seriously. It probably took you more effort to TRY to write like that than it would have had you written normally. Then maybe people will take you more seriously. And do your own work for crying out loud. If you really need help (after actually trying it yourself maybe?), seek out your PI as he is most likely to know whatever the hell your assignment entails...moreso than strangers on a forum. Put your pink razr away and go do your spelling homework now.

hah. nice rant. I was thinking similar things.

Says the user with the avatar that would have more place on a poster in an adolescent male's bedroom than a professional school forum...hmm...just noticing.

My take on it, Mr. Occam's Razor, was that he hadn't been sleeping with his avatar, hence the pent-up hostility.

I mean, that is the simplest answer, so it must be right. You said so.

Oopsies, you guyz got me!! lolllllzzzzz!!!

Clearly as males mature we gradually lose interest in the fairer sex (or should, if we are to become competent professionals in today's world). Naturally my admiration of a hot female model and beautiful women in general should take a second place position to medicine, my true passion. Forgive me, I will promptly remove my unprofessional avatar of a hot model more suited to an adolescent male's bedroom wall (an adolescent male who is, unprofessionally so, still in touch with his sexuality) and replace it with an image of starving children in africa to remind me every time I log into SDN of my sacred mission to bring health and medicine to those in need. I'm so sorry...you're right, admiring women is nothing a 24 year old guy should dabble in. Sorry!! LOLZZZ!!! 4giv me 4 bing a fr34k lolzzz!!!

haha, no seriously, you're right, if i were sleeping with this one (yum) I'd probably be a happier camper and less stressed about step 1 😀 😍

As my Dad said, the day you lose interest in the opposite sex is the day life is no longer valuable, no matter what your professional, social, or economic status.

Hear, hear for your avatar. Unsuspectingly encountering these little gems during my SDN information mining sure helps *my* day go by easier!

BUMP
