Is anyone sending thank you letters or emails to ppl who interviewed u? For medical school interviews I felt it was good manners and it served as a reminder after interviews were over. But for residencies, i would hvae to send out 4 letters per interview and seems a little extreme. Any opinions?

I did emails--personally I hate sending and receiving these things, so I figured email was a good compromise

I did handwritten thank you cards to interviewers at programs that I really liked and thought I wanted to be at. One or two PDs made it clear that they felt thank you notes were important (U of Chicago PD comes to mind). Was it overkill? Probably. I, personally, was glad to know that a) I had upheld the standards of etiquette my family set for me as a kid and b) that I had done EVERYTHING possible to make my interesting in a program clear.

The general consensus of thank you notes is that most PD's, etc are not affected by these things.

However, being from the south, I think it is good manners to send them. (Yes, I know... they have no effect on my views of people I interview etc. )

Agree with Dr. Red. It won't affect how you are ranked but it is courteous. Hand written or email are OK in my book.
