I have really slacked on writing thank you notes. I havent sent any to any of the spots I interviewed in December (the first half of the month). I figured no one would really notice as long as one is in my file sometime before ranking starts...agree?

I think at this point is looks worse to send one than to not send one at all. I'm of the belief (after talking to a lot of attendings about it) that thank you notes may only help a little if at all if they are prompt and personal. If they are templated and/or late, they certainly won't help and may hurt. I'm also not convinced that they'll get put in your file. I was at an interview this week and while I was outside of an attending's office waiting for him to get off the phone, another attending walked by with a thank you note from an applicant in hand, looked at me, laughed, and ripped the thank you note up saying, "this is what we do with thank you notes." True story.

Thanks for the reply. Are you sure its wise to not send any at this point? I know the value is debatable, but some of them were only 3-4 weeks ago and 2 of those weeks were holidays i dont really imagine it would look bad to send now. Maybe Ill just write to the ones I care more about...? I dont think it could hurt to send one to the PD, but if anything- it could hurt to not.
