The acidity of the plasma is caused by ?

a. oxidation of glucose and fat
b. metabolism of sulfur containing a.a.
c. production of CO2 by tissue
d. all of the above
e. none of above.

the correct answer is D, but why lo? Can someone break down each pathway that caused increase H+ in plasma? Thanks!

i think I can explain... but not sure! somebody needs to back me up
a. is due to production of CO2 (from aerobic) and acid (from anaerobic). also fat produces triglycerides and fatty ACID

b. this one I would say is the production of sulfuric acid maybe. also it's an amino acid. but unfortunately cannot explain the pathway. never learned the breakdown of cystein in biochem, sorry!🙁

c. CO2 in tissue is converted to H+ and HCO3- by enzyme Carboxy Anhydrase(or something like that). so that's a weak acid.

I'm pretty sure about choice c, but the other two I have to reason them out!
somebody correct me if i'm wrong

I also think C is the correct answer. CO2 plays a very important role and "respiratory acidosis" & "metabolic acidosis" result from a build-up of CO2 in the blood
