Right, so I got an interview coming up. Let me make sure I got all this strait beforehand...

I should be confidant...
...but not overconfidant.

I should "just be myself"...
...but have a predetermined set of things that I am trying to convey during the interview

I should be prepared for the questions they are likly to ask...
...but I shouldnt give prepared answers.

I should already know what to say...
...but appear spontaneous when I talk about it.

I should try and stand out and be memorable...
...but be professional and follow these rules (just like everyone else)

I should ask questions to the interviewer to appear interested...
...but I shouldn't appear that I am just asking questions to appear interested

I should be modest and humble...
...but do everything I can to show that I am a great applicant the best one they will see today

I should imply that this school is a great fit for me...
...do this at every school

and finally, I should act natural...
...but look directly in their eyes, lean forward when listening, smile when they talk, and act professional at all times.

Got it, sounds totally easy. Did I miss anything?

True but it all boils down to:

Don't be awkward

I'll make it simple. If you're awkward, don't be yourself.

That should be made into a sticky for interview advice.

LOL. so true!

(ps accord what is your avatar? i feel nerdy but it's actually kind of beautiful - looks like peacock feathers!)

Funny, but true. They of course seem contrary, but good public speaking skills and being able to read your audience allows for all of that to actually make sense and be possible. 😉

Haha, well that's okay, because obviously I am nerdy or it wouldn't be my avatar 🙂

Neuronal cell bodies of the dorsal root ganglion, and I agree- they are really pretty.

All the advice you said are completely true. There is a fine line that we're suppose to walk. This magical region where you are capable but not arrogant, smart but not annoying, give good answers but not mechanical ones, etc.
The ones who succeed tends to be people who walk this line well.
