So is this a common practice at every school, or are there any known schools that do not auto screen a gpa?

If you're worried about being auto screened then you shouldn't be applying.

Get your gpa up to a 3.0.
 
most schools have a minimum cut off for secondaries. check the websites of the schools you're interested in.
