I realize that this question has been brought up on SDN time and time again, but most of them were from a while ago, so I'll go ahead and post this for anyone who feels like reading and answering! I'd greatly appreciate it!

So I have a total of 4 W's on my transcript, the first in my freshman year, then two in junior, and one in senior. These were unfortunate times throughout my mom's battle with breast cancer, which was long and arduous (I know, so cliche), and my dad and I were the only ones to care for her. When I didn't have enough time to be at home as much as I needed/wanted, as a VERY worst case scenario, to spare my GPA, I would withdraw from a class. I did not REALLY know what the implications were, but I also wasn't sure if my mother would be with us day to day at some points, so it was the last thing on my mind tbh.

So to keep this BS short, what do you guys think? Are adcoms gonna "allow me to explain", am I good? No matter what, I'm applying and getting in SOMEWHERE eventually anyway, but this post is kind of just to give me some ease of mind, as I'm currently finishing up my applications.

Thanks in advance,

JP

I had 13 Ws on my transcript when I applied 8 years ago. Had no issues and no one brought it up.

I had close to 20 Ws and just graduated.

Thanks for the reply! And Wow lol I mean to be fair that was a while ago, it’s probably more competitive by now right? And what do you think you made up for them not to care?

I had 4 or 5 Ws and an F on my transcript. I didn't write about it anywhere and no one asked me about it. I got into half the DO schools I applied to and interviews at half the MDs I applied to (4 and 4). Be authentic, and do well in what you have the control to do well in and you will be fine!

Countless W’s, C’s and a D on mine.

Never mentioned once and I just took STEP 1 this week.

Wow, right on! I’m guessing you had a great MCAT and app overall? Lol and should I even mention it anywhere then?
