Getting ready to start completing Common App for Purdue University. Honestly I've only just heard of it recently, so the whole concept is kind of new to me. I always just assumed each college had their own online application portal, so I've got some questions:

-What materials are required for the Common App? I'm assuming transcripts and I've heard you need a LOR as well. Are these sent to the school you are applying or to The Common App itself?

-Do you fill out the Common App on it's website, or on the website of the school they are applying to? If on their website, does it cost to send the app to colleges?

-What major colleges use The Common App? Or do most still have their own unique applications?

Thanks!

Common Application! Unfortunately, that time of the year👎
About 400 Colleges and Universities across United States use the application. This application has to be completed and sent online. Fortunately, the application is downloaded by the institutions, so there is no need for extra applications! (I don't know if this has changed).

1) First, make an account, if you did, go to the college search tab and type in "Purdue University" and click search. When the results come up, click the check box for the college/university you want, then click the add button. If you already done this step, good. Click on the "My Colleges" tab and on the far left you should see Purdue University in crimson. If you scroll almost to the bottom you will see what the college wants from you. You can always refer to the Purdue's website if it isn't clear. I'm applying there too, they require: 60 dollar fee, SAT and/or ACT scores, Counselor form (It's on the website), Letter of Rec., and transcript.

2) Yes, go the Common Application website and log in. Different schools have different application fees; Purdue is $60.

3) I don't have the exact colleges/universities, but a lot of them use the common app.

Just finished applying to Purdue... I think! I'm just waiting for the counselor forms and LORs. Also, if I sent my ACT scores directly to Purdue, I'm good there right?

YeEaHSH.
You are fine.

Most major colleges use the Common App. However, if you want to save some money, there are some schools that don't use it and have free apps that are completely separate. Tulane is one example.
As for ACT scores, make sure to send them directly to each college you're applying to.
Good luck and have fun!

Got a confirmation email that my application was complete and submitted to Purdue, along with Purdue's required essay. I don't have my LORs in yet, so will they just be added to my application when they're submitted? Or do they even really matter?

Purdue requires that LOR and it'll be added to your application. 🙂

Also keep in mind that many colleges require supplemental essays in addition to the main common app essay...
