Hey guys
I exhausted but just thought id post some info. I just arrived from the testing centre having taken my test and dont really know how to feel about my scores overall.😕
I think i did well, and really needed to get a decent score since im applying from Canada and am aiming for BU and NYU as my top schools.
I start studying around early april but i have finals from early april to the 29th, so afterwards until my test day it was hitting like 8-12 hr study sessions.
My scores:
Bio...18
G chem 24
O chem 24
RC 20
PAT 20
QR 19 i thought 🙁 but the percentile was 91.2 so i feel okay
TS= 21 (91.6)
AA= 21 (93.4)
ALRIGHTY BREAKDOWN:
The Story:
Try to take into mind, the DAT questions arent necessarily that hard, what does come into play is the sheer worth of the test and stresses involved and the time factor which doesnt tend to make your head hurt. Focus on keeping positive, and endurance, try to do questions for long periods of time to see how you cope. Dont get off track and zone out looking at the computer screen or remembering that funny joke you heard (it happens).
Make sure you FEEL LIKE YOU OWN it, i just trying to focus on bashing this test in the face and leaving it for dead.
On the days leading upto the test, I started listening to pump up, agressive music, I might recommend:
D12- Fight Music
Busta Rhymes- Bounce
System of a Down- Sugar
The Game- House of Pain
Metallica- St.Anger
Anything by DMX or Rammstein
Stuff that will make you feel like YOU ARE in charge. Heck, start throwing some punches in the air, although preferably not in the prometric waiting area. 😉
If you feel like you did badly on the last portion of the test, focus extra hard on the next one. After bio, i just started trying to dismember Gchem and Ochem.
The Tools
Biology:
+Kaplan BB Biology:covered the basics, not too too bad but not enough detail
+Cliffs AP Bio notes:a great read highly recommended
+Campebells Bio 7th Ed: Wayyyy too much info, but hey if you have ample time id try it. very in detail and a great read i skimmed it
+ DAT Destroyer- good hard questions that get your mind on the right track
- Schaums Biology- Booooooriiing, id say stick to Cliff's
G. Chem:
+ so you might be sitting at home going "i hate chem".... well i recommend CHAD's VIDEOS, he is an amazing teacher and makes concepts so clear. Lets just put it this way, i did just a formative test for chem and was getting 17-18...BUT THEN emerged his shiny bald head that lead the way.
This and Kaplan BB made a killer combo
+ DAT destroyer- just greatm helps solidify all the concepts from the videos
O. Chem:
+Once again id recommend CHAD'S VIDEOS..I agree they may not cover everything but DEFINETLY worth a look
+ Kaplan BB is maybe all you need
+ DAT destroyer- do this and you'll be E1/E2-ing those DAT problems in no time
EXTRA: Maybe if youve taken orgo, use your textbook, for me Solomons and Fryhe 9th Edition is fantastic
RC
For this is I just tried reading long journal articles from Cell or Nature, and tried to grab the main points
ALSO: just PRACTICE, go through Kaplan BB, get something like topscore or achiever
QR
+ I start studying QR is advance but didnt know how hard it was going to be, now i didnt have enough time to wait for math destroyer to come in the mail so i ordered CDM. Let me say its a GREAT program, the questions on the DAT really do resemble them, and if you can finish these tests within the 45mins, youll be fine for the real thing
- Kaplan Class QR questions, I got a pdf of these, and frankly, they are just way harder than the actual test, forget em kids
PAT
+ CDP is all you need, although I must say that my test PAT seemed much harder than this, but get the software and start cranking 20+ and you should be fine
Practice Tests:
TopScore- I found this to only somewhat represent my overall scores, but the distrbution of my actual test was different. The sciences seem kind of easier on topscore. PAT, QR and RC were around where they should be as compared to the real thing
The Real DAT:
Biology: was hard, just wow, i seemed to get a lot of questions from left field, it was what i studied most too, so i dont know what to do, just use the recommended resources and hope it goes your way
G Chem: Found rather easy actually, not too many calculations, nothing really mindbending, Chad has taught me well
O Chem: Once again not to bad, espcially if you had been kicking the destroyer questions in the butt
PAT: surprisingly more difficult that I thought, maybe after sciences i was kinda drained but I couldnt wrap my head around a few q's
RC: it was what it was, go through, search and destroy, I felt i maybe couldve done a little better
QR: Nothing really too far from what CDM had taught me, for those of you who are international perhaps try to remember those US units, and just try to finish it up on time
Anyway best of luck and ill answer any questions.
**Anyways good luck to all, and as i later calculated by GPA should be around 3.5 and the sGPA a tenth lower, so advice from members, is this OK?
Best of luck
