The "Dreaded Physics" and "Dreaded Piano" RC Passages...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are there any examples of what these passages look like/are composed of? Any way to prep specifically for those types of passages?
I didn't get the Physics passage, but I bet people are making it worse than it is. I would guess the calculation problems there are like the one in the Thunder passage on the ADA 2009.

i heard piano was retired, for physics i heard the best exam is achiever test #2 where you have to do math. i did that one the night before my exam.

Gosh! What is with the physics passage that I keep hearing about from everyone on SDN. Was it really long? Were there application questions with calculations? Did people try S&D method?

S&D method didn't work for me with Physics passage. I had a passage on the role of glutamate receptors and another one on genetic cancer.

Those are considered "Physics" passages? I'm still unclear what it refers to and how "calculations" are involved...

The feedback is there are some calculations you have to make. I assume it must present some type of formulas and then they probably throw some numbers at you in a question and expect you to calculate it.

It's probably more cryptic such as a similar problem I saw in the 2007 exam. In the passage it mentioned that x-ray intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source. No equations, just words. Then in the question it asked what factor is the intensity reduced when a person stands 4 meters away from the x-ray source instead of 1 meter.

It's like c'mon bro, this is reading.

Dang, that would piss me off...

I had the physics passage. It was crazy stupid ridiculous... I was doing great on CDR and this one messed me up bad🙁 19RC. I had no idea what I was reading and you cannot S&D at all!! Just pray you dont get it... Happy hoping😀

Let me tell you that the physics passage is no joke and its not an exaggeration.
I'm a good reader- I'm confident in my RC scores- I was always scoring 21+, I got a 29 once on a practice....

I got 20 on the real RC and I got the Physics passage. I really couldn't understand WTF it was talking about. I saved it for last, but STILL. I'm sure maybe, if you keep your cool and really try to read it, it may be better - but ur going to have to rush through the next two because it takes some time to read and understand it.

Ahhhhh man. My only thoughts now about the RC section is: 'do I feel lucky?' as if I was at a casino. And I really don't feel lucky right now. I feel doomed. My gut feeling is I am going to get stuck with this physics passage. I hope I am wrong.

Im sure u can balance it out with ur super high scores on everything else😀

You ain't gonna be stuck with the physics passage. Don't worry. Even if you were, there has to be people who do well on it; so what does that say? Some people complain about the piano passage as to why the did poorly on RC, but someone has to score in the 95+ percentile on that passage. At this point just worry about what you can control. Am I right?

I was hoping and praying I wouldnt get the piano passage and I was doing research on what days the piano passage was most likely to appear (I know, I know - Like it mattered) Anyhow, when I started reading the physics passage I was like "Man, I wish I had the piano passage right about now!!!"

Ive heard about the piano passage for the past year and never understood what it was?? I took my test praying not to get something related to pianos.. haha? Whats so hard about this passage?

so does anyone know what the passage being referred to is? I had the DAT yesterday and had a passage with bose-einstein condensation and some conversions, could this be the physics passage everyone was concerned about? It was definitely the most difficult of the 3 passages. All I have to say is that it really was not that bad and I pretty much did s and d through the whole rc section and still had a few minutes to go over the answers.

I don't think so. People have said the physics passage cannot be done with S&D.

Dude I had that passage too! Definitely took the most time to get through than the other two. It was really dense physics/chemistry material. Know your conversions well for this passage people!

Yeah it was not as bad as I thought it would be tho. Still not sure if the passage we got was the physics one, it has to be right? Like I said I basically used S and D. In my opinion the way they set up the passages makes them very easy to understand, so when you skim through it for the first time you get the basic layout. Then on each question you can really narrow your search down to 1 or 2 paragraphs. I got a 24RC doing this and I did not really prepare at all for RC.
