saffronrain said:isn't there something similar? like.. friendster.com? i guess that's just for anyone though, not just college students. eh, it's all good- you're really not missing out because it's a huge waste of time. if i want to procrastinate, i go onto thefacebook. 😀
avinash said:she does have a good point, you can waste a lot of time on this site
LOL, when I tried signing up, it wouldn't accept my uni's email address. I dunno why... But anyways, I'll stick to wasting time on SDN. hehe.saffronrain said:isn't there something similar? like.. friendster.com? i guess that's just for anyone though, not just college students. eh, it's all good- you're really not missing out because it's a huge waste of time. if i want to procrastinate, i go onto thefacebook. 😀
i update my pic almost every day...probably b/c of my recent acquisition of said digital camera.
God, the majority of posters on the forum now are too young to understand the context of any of this...
Off topic and I'm going to sound old as hell for saying this but Facebook was a lot better in the earlier years (2005 to around 2011) before it started acquiring all those networking services like Instagram Twitter and started allowing Buzzfeed Pinterest etc. to be linked onto someone's Facebook account. now it's easy to see how people judge others' social worth by the amount of likes they get. But w/e.
The glory days of Facebook were definitely in the first few years. It was only college students. You could post whatever you wanted without worry that your grandmother or kid sister was going to see it. Also, no newsfeed. So you actually had to go around and click on people's profiles to see what they were up to. So much better. Now posting something on Facebook is like posting it in your local newspaper.
Stalking used to MEAN something, dammit!
Well, I imagine that they didn't have to be as cautious with regards towards their online identities yet.I'm surprised at the number of people giving personal information in this thread back in '05. The teenage Internet was a weird place.
I am so glad I didn't have a smart phone back in 2005 when I wrote that or there would be a lot more stupid pictures of me than there already are. At this point I can't afford to post anything stupid online or it would jeopardize my career. Golden age of "The Facebook" was definitely when I joined as one of the original colleges that gained access.Imagine if this person had a smart phone
My dad was working on a college campus when it first got big so he had an account waayyy before I did. I remember him coming home and trying to explain "Facemask" to us... we thought he was crazy. My friends and partner and I occasionally call it "The Facebook," but we more often call it "Facebox" or "The Facebox." Come to think of it, I havent a clue as to the etiology...
Haha, that's pretty good.My dad was working on a college campus when it first got big so he had an account waayyy before I did. I remember him coming home and trying to explain "Facemask" to us... we thought he was crazy.
I miss Pieces of Flair and ranking (Funniest friends? Most annoying friends? Is s/he hot?) apps. In retrospect, they were petty bad, but they made high school so much more interesting. 🙂Off topic and I'm going to sound old as hell for saying this but Facebook was a lot better in the earlier years (2005 to around 2011) before it started acquiring all those networking services like Instagram Twitter and started allowing Buzzfeed Pinterest etc. to be linked onto someone's Facebook account. now it's easy to see how people judge others' social worth by the amount of likes they get.
