I frequently hear that Radiology is a very technologically driven field and that there has been many advances in that respect within the past few decades.

My question is for current residents and attendings: Do you think we will see a boom in medical imaging technology that we have seen in the relatively recent past? Also, how do you think this will affect our day-to-day work? What will this mean in terms of reimbursement i.e. what did it look like when we first began using MRIs?

Thanks in advance.

Shark: are you being facetious? If not, I'd love to hear you expand on that thought.

I think my estimate of 2-3 mil per year was a little off. We will make 3-4 mil.

Man, SDNers are harsh...

Someone comes on here with a question (lets assume it's a legit question) and they get nothing but sarcasm and scoffs. Ouch. Not everyone on these forums are at the resident or attending level. The whole point is to get answers from those that are wiser, more experienced. No need for sarcasm. If there's nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all...

OP: I'm just m3 so I can't possibly answer your question from personal experience. I know it's super annoying, but I think you may find your answer after browsing through the old SDN Radiology threads (it'll be annoying, but no way around it).

Here's my answer after neurotically reading everything radiology-related there is on SDN (so take it with a huge grain of salt): Imaging tech will continue to grow and new technology will further augment/spice up what radiologists are already doing. They will continue to have a role in medicine, albiet a more specialized role. As far as reimbursements go, they won't be nearly in the range that they used to be 10 years ago. I suspect they'll be better than an internist though. But no matter what you do now a days, reimbursements will go down.
