So on Friday, hubby and I saw The Hangover. One of the main characters is a dentist and there's a running joke that he's not a real doctor. That was a sore spot for me as a vet med student. Man, I feel you all's pain, particularly ever since our dental labs last block working on extractions for small animal and doing a weekend seminar on equine dentistry (which is tough stuff!). I have a whole new appreciation for dentistry. It's definitely both medicine and surgery, as one of our professors said. So I'd just like to say cheers!

great movie, made fun of every single race.

I just saw it today, and thought to myself "I wonder if there was gonna be a thread post about the whole dentist not being doc thing".

I went onto pre-dent, no avail, I began to lose hope.

But SDN never disappoint, and here's the thread at Dent!

I too saw the movie a couple days ago and decided to search the dental forums to see if it spurred any reaction from you guys. I half-expected to see some pre-dents freaking out about it on here, but alas all of you seem to know how to take a joke.

haha very true. i saw the movie with this girl last monday i was laughing more than i was trying to get with her. definitely going to try to pull my own tooth sometime when i blackout drinking in dental school or as dentist.

The movie was hillarious..I'm a predent and I wasn't offended at all. I don't think dentists should command as much respect as medical doctors. It is obviously stupid to bash anyone's profession but in comparison, medical doctors make a much larger impact to society than dentists.

My two cents...

I actually thought it was very funny and did not get offended at all.

Oh, the inadequacy is killing me !

I wasn't really impressed by the missing tooth. I just thought to myself, huh ... Hollywood ! Then when I read about the fact that the guy actually was missing that lateral, I really was impressed ...

Does anyone have any idea where the chicken came from?😕

Ugh I'm so sad now after watching the movie I think I'm gonna tell the dean of admissions that I'm withdrawing and applying to med school now.

But did you all notice that they kept asking the dentist to pay for everything? I'll trade a little ridicule for a higher income and a better lifestyle, thank you.
