It seems that whenever I go on the Pharmacy forums more than Predental or Medical, everyone is unhappy with their jobs. So I wanted to start a thread for those pharmacists who are happy with their jobs to tell us about what they do and why they find what they do so fulfilling. I want ideas of career paths in pharmacy to look at so one day I don't end up one of these miserable pharmacists.

Please and thank you! 🙂

for real?

I worked at CVS for almost 12 years including intern years and absolutely hated it!!! It was terrible in every sense of the word!! I was the angry pharmacist!!

I finally got out of CVS and guess what....

I LOVE MY JOB!!!!!!!!!

I now work at an outpatient/ambulatory pharmacy at a Medical Center in NY and it is great. I work more or less M-F 10-6. No weekends. Will have 4 weeks vacation starting next year. Union benefits, pension, $0 copays. It's such a niche pharmacy. Customers and coworkers are great. I can go on and on really. The best part is NO corporate BS!!!

I really did get lucky landing this job (turnover is almost non-existent...people have been here for more than 20 years). I was almost job hunting as a full time job for over 2 tears and couldn't find anything. But I just want to tell you that keep your head up and stay positive and keep your eyes and ears open....hopefully it all works out.

I'm a staff/clinical hybrid at a small hospital and I love my job. 8 hour days, 45-60 minute lunch, and I get to put into practice a lot of my knowledge helping nurses and MDs.

I work as a clinical specialist and I like my job 90% of the time. A lot of it has to do with my awesome co-workers and amazing physicians/RNs.

I'm a resident and I love my job. I also loved my internship. There is a path in there for everyone in pharmacy, if you go into it for the right reasons in the first place.

Wow it is really encouraging to read these posts, and it gives me a good idea of which specific workplace has happy pharmacists. Keep posting and thank you!

Retail chain overnight: 7 on, 7 off. Love every minute of it. Work days on week off. People who whine about retail are bit**es. Can't hack it dude.

Some people like to bend over and receive it from the corporate ******. Some people don't, doesn't mean they're a bitch or they can't hack it. Some are very good at taking it, but hate it. Not sure how anyone can love 14 hour days on feet whole time with no breaks... Yes that does happen at some Busy stores with no overlap.

On of my best friends is PIC at a busy small town Rite Aid. Her FB status yesterday was about how she's working 86 hours this week and "loves being a pharmacist." I'm sure she's also going to love her paycheck. I think it's unfair to say that people who love retail just love "bending over" and taking it. The amount of prejudice against community pharmacy on this board is disheartening. The community pharmacist is the most visible and most numerous member of our profession.

Clinical pharmacist at small hospital and ambulatory care center. Love it.

So says the slacker night Pharmacist hiding out because he can't hack working days. You have to deal with 1/100 of the BS the day shift does. Keep hiding out on the over night shift dude. Its a whloe other world on the day shift.

I fill about 20% of the script volume at night, and I manage the crackheads and early birds. But I'm the only pharmacy open at night in town... alas.

Agree with this...I don't understand it. A lot of customers are actually really appreciative of the work that community pharmacists do. Dealing with an angry customer every now and then isn't enough to make u forget how many people you put smiles on their faces everyday. Don't know how it is dealing with corporate though.

I love community pharmacy and dealing with customers. There are some good districts with some understanding supervisors and then there are some that are unrealistic micro managers.

I just didn't think it was right to call out the people that bitch and say they can't hack it. Because some of the bitchyess people are some of the best community pharmacists who everyday are forced to practice like a mindless corporate drone to meet corporate goals.

I agree the "can't hack it" comment was uncalled for. So was your response.

Let's keep it civil please

Yes please! I don't know about everyone else, but my intention of this thread was to learn and share. What works well for one person might not for another. Let's be kind and cool 😎.

Nice.🙄

Check this, bro.

Not to start a fight or anything but to be honest, people are overly sensitive about things these days. You can't say anything without pissing someone off. I mean, I get why people could get upset and I don't need the lecture on the appropriateness of it but come on, is this really contributing to the point the guy was trying to make?

I work 7 on 7 off second shift at a medium sized non-academic hospital. I wouldn't say I love my job, but I love parts of it and don't hate the rest. I get to do a good bit of "clinical" work. I feel like I'm respected their for my knowledge and leadership. The hospital is small enough that I can get things done if I put my mind to it, but big enough that we get to do some off the wall things still. Its nice knowing that you can honestly, truly make a difference in a place if you try.

Is use of the word "******" contributing to his point? Give me a break, Quiksilver, I expect much more from you. How is it any different than going around using a racial slur or calling someone a *** to imply that they are a lesser person? It's not. Use of the "n" word on here would get me banned (as it well should). Think about it. Would it bother you if I used that word to illustrate a point? Does that make you over sensitive?

Grow up.

ETA: I typed the derogatory "f" word for a homosexual and SDN ***d it out. Interesting, no?

That was a waste of time.

A point well-illustrated by your quoting of it.
Why does Quiksilver need to grow up? Are you intolerant of immaturity?
Quite frankly, I can't tolerant of your intolerance. I find it offensive. I just can't tolerate it.

Blah, blah, blah... yadah, yadah, yadah.

Now back to being "happy" pharmacists.

I agree, I dont think people have the right to "not be offended" What if the color blue offended me? Where do we draw the line? I mean, we have people asking for American flags to be taken out of classrooms, because it offends people. Or taking "one nation under god" out of the pledge. I am not even a religious person and I think that is ridiculous.

With that being said I guess everyone has the right to express their opinion about how they were offended.

Back to the Subject, I work at an independent community pharmacy that does compounding and I love my job. There are days when things get to me, but I like what I do.

With some time to think about it and collect my thoughts this is what I have to say

Like I said, I get it. I don't go around trying to offend people with my words. And I am pretty sure many of us here are the same way. As with everything that goes a long with this profession, pharmacists generally hold themselves to a higher standard by understanding and respecting the diversity of the patients we serve. I do not discriminate or insult any sort of culture, race, sex, sexual preference, medical issue, etc. I took an oath to protect and care for patients from all sorts of backgrounds, and so has everyone else. The point is, you don't have to attack his character because he used that word. I get what you are doing, but I think you could have done it in a manner more appropriate as a professional like yourself. I know YOU can be a better person then that. You won't win friends if you attack the person and not the deed.

I have respect for you, and what you are trying to say. Don't get me wrong, I do understand. Don't loose sight of that.
