I was wondering what the highest score someone on here had before re-taking the MCAT? Also, what did you get the second time around. (ie. You re-wrote with a 32L and got a 36R). Just curious?

My first score was a 34P. I retook the test because too much time had passed and the score was no longer valid. My new score is a 43S.

I retook it to bring up my verbal score. went from an 8 12 12 to an 11 12 12. I wish the sciences went up some, but I'm not complaining.

why would she be lying? it's an anonymous forum.

Quimica, well done. Where are you headed?

Just out of curiosity, why did you let an outstanding score of 34 on the MCAT expire? Did you not apply, or were you not accepted for some other reason?

umm.. the same reason people do it at all. She would be arguable the highest score during that testing year with a 43S.

somebody had to actually score that high, didn't they? Read the rest of her posts - it seems to make sense. She let the 34 expire because she thought she wanted to do something else (and proceeded to get a PhD, IIRC).

I think it is funny when the second people here of someone with a 40 or higher they assume that it can't be true.

I believe there are people here capable of getting that score, if a guy I knew went in the test not studying much and got a 35M, then it is possible for people on here to get a 40 or higher.

I've been totally trumped, but I got a 31 (with a 9 bio), retook and got a 32 with all 10+. I let that expire (was flying airplanes), retook, and got a 36.

Thanks to those of you who defended me. 🙂 I am not lying about my score. I don't suppose there is any way to prove it to everyone's satisfaction (I've seen the fake 44s a couple of people posted; pretty neat job!) so I guess you will have to take my word for it. I am just glad that none of my students outscored me!!! (I teach MCAT prep classes.)

I don't know where I want to go yet. I do know that I'm interested in doing research, and I'd like to be able to use my chemistry background. I just don't want to be a bench chemist for the rest of my career. I am planning on applying for 2006 because I am supposed to graduate in Aug. but of course there is always a chance it might take me an extra semester. My prof told me that I could apply for 2005 anyway and come back after my first semester of med school to defend if I needed to, but I didn't think I wanted to have defending my dissertation hanging over my head during the first semester of med school!!! I'll already be ten years older than the other students, so what is one more year, right?

Wow, this is a really long, convoluted way to say "dunno". I am really glad that I found out about this site, because I really don't have too many other people that I can talk about pre-med stuff with here. Even the pre-med advisor at my university wasn't too sure what to do with me. 🙂

It's kind of a long story. It was partially because I took organic chem as a junior and absolutely loved it. (I had been a bio major, but my senior year I basically took all chemistry courses and almost finished a chem degree too.) And it was in big part because of a guy. (Don't we do the dumbest things for love?) I did apply to med school, and one place accepted me, one waitlisted me, and one ignored me. I also took the GRE and got into grad school at a different place. I was engaged to this guy I had met in college. He applied to grad school here in FL and didn't get in, but he did get in at the same school where I got into grad school....so we both went there.

I found out after I got there about MSTP programs. That's what I should have done in the first place, but I didn't know about them before. So I tried to transfer in, but they told me that I should finish my PhD first and then they'd be glad to take me. The scores expire after three years, so I'd have to retake the test, but they weren't worried about that. To make a long story short, I didn't end up marrying the guy, I ended up leaving with a masters and working for a while before deciding to go back and finish my PhD, and NOW I feel like I'm finally ready to go to med school! I'm not going to take the MCAT any more....if I don't go to med school this time, it just ain't gonna happen. 😛

Awwww. the things we do when we are younger!!!

But at least with time and age, we get wiser. I think with your scores and other experiences you will have no problem getting into a good program somewhere.

What kind of research are you interested in????? Biochemistry research since your degree is chemistry, or something more like cancer or immunology research??? Or something else?

36S in April, 38T in August. I will retake some time next year. Why? An ego thing, I guess. OK, it's not a guess.

38 T in April, 41S in August.

yeah right

Right now I am working in drug discovery; our lab works on design and synthesis of peptidomimetics. I've been thinking that I'd like to move further down the pipeline, and be involved with clinical trials. I was also thinking that something like clinical toxicology might be appropriate, since it would make use of the chemistry background. It's not that I don't like chemistry anymore. And I do think that the work we are doing could make a difference in people's lives. But I'd like to be more personally involved with people. I've thought of teaching, but I have to confess that after teaching the exact same material to several classes for a few years now, the challenge and excitement just aren't there any more. One thing about research and clinical practice is that there is always something different going on. And it's definitely a challenge to do either one well!

What are the rest of you wanting to do? (Time for me to get out of the hotseat. 😛 )

So what's your story. I'll assume that you're telling the truth about those numbers, because there isn't a lot of point in lying. How far along are you in your schooling? Are you going for a top 10 school. Why re-write with a 36 (or a 38 for that matter)? Crazy stuff, but good job!

Shrike is a very talented individual.

He is telling the truth, I know that fur sure. (at least i think i do)

Why does he do this? I know, but I like to keep people guessing. Just know that this guy could "out-test" every person I have ever met. I'm not sure if this is correct, but I think is also has a 180 LSAT score under his belt.

He is a professional test taker, basically, he gets his jollies by wrecking the curve for all of us.

you people are nuts! who would want to put themselves through that tortue again. i can think of a couple, well maybe a couple hundred better ways to spend a few months.

Quimica,

Wow, that sounds exciting. I do research right now with an organic chemist who is involved in natural products research and researching possible new compounds in antarctic organisms that may have potential pharmacological uses.

I am graduating next fall, so that I can study for the MCAT in spring, and going to try to do some postbac work and then apply for med school.

I hope to be a neurologist or internist some day. But which field of med I go into could change with time.

Highest score = 32. Lowest score = 32. Yes folks, I recieved a 32 on 2 mcat administrations and plan on sitting for a third. I need that 33+ score so sexy.

Someone was suggesting that anesthesiology is a good field for a chemist, too. So maybe I will also change my mind; anyway I have plenty of time to decide, as do you. 🙂 Antarctica is a very cool place, both literally and figuratively. What kinds of organisms are you working on?

Just so the people reading this forum don't think everyone is insane, I took the MCATs first in April 2003 and got a 27P (9P, 8V, 11B). I applied to med school with that thinking that I might be able to squeak by.

Alas, that did not happen. So I retook the test in August 2004. After retaking I got a 31P. Hopefully this is enough this time!

Ok I take your word on the 43, but nobody "loves" organic chem.

I don't know I think Organic chem can be fun if you understand it. I love tutoring my friends in it and actually do research with my former professor.

I do. I freely admit that I LOVE ORGANIC CHEMISTRY!!!! 😍 I like biology, and I like gen chem, and I even like physics, but we decided we should just be friends.

Amen to that, I took it and i'm done with the MCAT FOREVER!!!!!

Unless i don't get any acceptance letter 😀

i don't get it, what's so special about a 33? a 32 is awesome!

I got a 29Q Aug 2003, retook this past administration (Aug 2004) and got a 32P. I retook mainly because my first score was very unbalanced, with a 7 in PS. Hopefully brining it up by a whopping 1 point to an 8 in that section now will help me out. 🙄 Anyway, I'm just relieved that my score went up overall and at least a little in that section, it's still unbalanced but I'd rather have an unbalanced 32 than an unbalanced 29. I've read a lot of sad posts from people who went down this past Aug, and I'm just grateful that didn't happen to me.
