anybody else ever took a moment or two to take a break and just relax and search for some random vids that relate to psychiatry on youtube before?

i did that recently, and found a series of videos by a man that is called John Breeding.

Holy pucking sheet! I almost wanted to pluck my eyes out with a fork, and stab my ears with a sharp pencil, because he is so full of complet crap.

anybody else get annoyed by anti psychiatry people?

this probably might even relate to my previous thread in this forum, but i wanted to get some information on psychiatric studies, so that i can shut people like him the puck up!

can someone link me to some information, or sources where i can see statistics on psychiatry, medications, and studies, that show that psychiatrists are making a real difference in the lives of atleast the majority of their patients.

many many thanks!

John Breeding is mostly preaching to the converted.

People who like him also like this sort of stuff. Mostly harmless and really nothing to get worked up about.

A while back, a friend of a friend posted this on facebook: http://www.offthegridnews.com/2010/10/08/is-free-thinking-a-mental-illness/

Anyone who has even a basic knowledge of psych and DSM IV should be able to see several huge inaccuracies immediately, but unfortunately there is a segment of the population that believes the worst of psych. Unfortunately I think a big part of that is because of the stigma on mental illness. Since most people justifiably are concerned about how others will perceive mental illness, those who receive psychiatric help and do well with it are not usually going to be very public about their illness. Therefore you see the unsatisfied people and delusional conspiracy theories getting the most attention.

Go to PubMed and search for treatment in psychiatry. Or you can go to APA: http://www.psych.org/ and start from there. There are so many studies out there. For example, CATIE study is for antipsychotic medications.

Psychiatry field is in relatively early phase in my opinion. We don't know much about the brain/mind. Therefore, we still re-evaluate our diagnostic criteria and treatment. With the new technology, we'll understand about the brain more in the future. There are a lot of good research projects going on in psychiatry, but people don't get the information yet because it's still too technical and early phase. Going into Psychiatry doesn't give you the glory, and it requires humility. However, if you want to face the challenge, it is the field for you. We should not expect to use a simple solution (medication for example) to solve a complex problem. So if you hear/see the anti-psychiatry voices, it's normal in life. Ignorant people are everywhere. Einstein once said: "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe." The problem is that stupid people don't recognize their stupidity.

When I worked in Inpatient Psychiatry rotation, so many family members of the patients told me how appreciate they were when there are people chose to go into Psych. Only when a family has member/s w/ psychiatric disorders, they'll love psychiatrists. Should I keep bragging about this? I'll let those families tell others about it because the population keeps increasing, it means that the incident of psychiatric d/o will keep increasing which makes Psychiatry more popular.

I saw a few anti-psych videos in Youtube, they are so manipulative and extreme. Because it's so extreme, it probably won't be effective in argument. Psychiatry is not for everyone.

I just finished a locums assignment in a prison and I can tell you that when their meds are finely tweeked and prisoners are happy, officers are happy, nurses and medical staff are happy, prison administration is happy, there is less incidence of fighting, and if they stay on their meds when they get out there is probably less crime. I'd say there is a difference.
