Can somebody please inform me about this whole fellowship business. I tried looking at FRieda, and other places for this information w/ no luck.

How long is an EM fellowship?
What benefits are involved?
What places offer this training?
Can D.O.'s do M.D. fellowships and vice versa?
Does a fellowship help you become a guru in the E.R. so that people will hold the tails of your lab coat up from dragging the floor when you arrive to work?

Any info is most appreciated!

I think you may be a bit confused. EM fellowships are for specific sub topics in emergency medicine (toxicology, ultrasound, EMS, etc...). Your last question seems to indicate that you are, in fact, talking about training to work in an emergency department. In that case the training is a three year residency and I refer you to the FAQs of this forum for the rest of your answers.

Actually, there are, I believe, 3 EM fellowships designed for non EM physicians. Two of them are in Tennesee. They are one year long. They allow for board certification at the end, but its not the normal board certification. Sorry for being vague, but I looked into these a while back... and thats all I remember.

wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

You will NOT I repeat NOT get board certified in EM via this route. It is not even near-normal, not even an "abnormal", not even a "paranormal" 'board certification'. It is an artificial certification which is NOT synonymous with, nor should be associated with the word, 'board'.

Check the FAQs, a good place to start, anyway.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Some of this information is rather obscure, so it takes a little time to research.

So, are you looking for an EM fellowship coming from a none EM residency? Or the types of fellowships that are available to EM resident graduates?
