So, I am a male DO applying OB - a field where a healthy mix of males to females, and hopefully a few DOs in with the MDs, works well - how does it really work with the match?

How does a PD make sure he gets at least 1 of 4 residents a male, but not 4 of 4? If he ranks several males high, the possibility is there that they all match and he is stuck with no female interns for OB!

The same scenario goes for DO/IMG/etc - does it just work out, do they play the match, or can the PDs set up certain parameters?

I apologize if this was answered before

Fellow applicant here, so take w/ grain of salt. but I dont think there's any way to "plan out" the results of match....(rank people based on how many male:female ratio). You get what the computer says, for both the program and applicant.

In theory, I guess it's possible to match all males, but I honestly don't think there are enough males applying to make this a real possibility. Especially since the match favors the applicant. All of the males that the program ranked high would have to also rank the program 1 or 2.
