When they have a pre-interview social/ happy hour/ meal/ whatever... are people wearing slacks and a nice shirt for the most part? Anyone wearing jeans? How informal are these deals?

All the guys have been wearing slacks and a nice button down shirt. Think business casual. Most of the places they take you to are pretty nice anyway. A few guys did not understand "business casual" and showed up in ties. Whatever.

I usually sported a nice pair of jeans, dress shoes, and a sport coat/nice sweater. You can leave the corn-blue button down and cotton dockers at home, unless that is your sort of thing. Then by all means sport em like a golf star.

I interviewed at Brigham and Women's in Boston way back. They took us out to a 5 star restaurant the night before so we were required to wear suits. That was a little scary because the only suit I brought was my interview suit. It would probably be a sight if I showed up for the interview and met Dr. Gelman(then chairman) with a big beer stain on my suit.

LOL 👍

I would be wary of jeans. One place told us no jeans and another said business casual.
