Received an out-right rejection from one school and am wait listed on three others.

What happens with the wait list? Am I in 'wait list' limbo - just waiting until school essentially starts to then realize that I have not been accepted OR do schools ever end your misery and end their wait list?

Seems so brutal to have applicants just waiting around on a wait list limbo - I'd rather know what the heck is going on.

I can tell you right now that waitlists does not mean rejection. I was waitlisted on 2/13 at my top choice and then accepted on 3/05. It all depends on the school.. some waitlists are long and stagnant, while other are short and active.

Tothepark is right. It depends on the wait list. OP, what schools have wait listed you? Also, just making sure, these are schools where you have received an interview, correct? I have just heard some people still waiting to hear from schools as being on the wait list, which is obviously not the same.

I can tell you from my experience that the one school I am wait-listed at (UCSF) has an end-date for the waitlist period. At some day in mid-September, if you haven't been pulled off the waitlist, then your application is formally denied.

Well if school has started you are pretty much f'd.

I interviewed at Louisville - its my first choice and I've been wait listed.

Louisville won't really tell you anything till you get accepted or early July rolls around and you receive a denial in the mail (this was my experience 2 years ago).
