~Stanford or bust. (bust =UCSF)

huh?

first of all, your post made no sense. second of all, UCLA is in LA, not OC. 🙄

and furthermore; i don't think that tv show you might be referring to; remotely resembles orange county; we don't even call it "the" o.c....where did the "the" come from anyways

I think the "The" is only because its a title of a tv show...not that they actually call it "The OC."

Walks like a troll....

"The ONLY good thing about UCLA is the lifestyle"--- sorry buddy, many would disagree.

Talks like a troll.....

"bust = UCSF"--- i will not dignify this quote with a response.

I have to ask, would anyone from Cali forego the tuition of UCSF to attend Stanford, an equally competitive and prestigious school for a higher price? Not that Stanford isnt a great school and all, but so is UCSF for a cheaper price.

as a cali resident, the only reason i would even bother applying to stanfurd is so that i could snub them (this time). it's all about revenge. incidentally, no i would not pick the card over an equally prestigious UC.

Doctor Cynical, sorry but mad cow disease is sooo last year, so stop pretending to be infected

what's up with this guy? he's been posting troll-like posts! like the ucsf vs. meharry thing... 🙄

i'm a stanford legacy. i'm basically a shoe in. 😀

I actually would consider Stanford over a UC (though I might pick UCSF just for location). Stanford's financial aid is amazing and really makes it competitive in terms of cost. I have a friend there now who turned down his UC acceptances for Stanford because Stanford made it cheaper for him to go there than any of the UCs. And if the proposed tuition hikes for UCs go into effect, UCs could be as much as $22,000 next fall so that really cuts into the cost difference. Frankly, both are great schools and I don't think you can go wrong with either if you are lucky enough to make that decision.

This is what I love about SDN - take a completely worthless thread and turn it into a relevant discussion. Keep up the good work, peeps.

stanford turns out to be about the same price as ucsf after aid and stuff. they have huge grants for low to middle income people. and for high income, they match 20,000 for you paying 20,000 or something like that...

the point is, this should not be how you decide. but overall, ucsf has better clinical experience and probably similar research opportunites although stanford gives you more free time for research.

The connections at Stanford are worth the cost.

Honestly, people read your posts and their IQ drops by at least 2 or 3 points. Your post in this thread made NO sense whatsoever. UCLA is NOT in orange county...it's in Los Angeles County (big surprise, huh? ucLA)..secondly, UCSF is just as good as Stanford (if not better in terms of research). Lastly, the "connections" from Stanford you're talking about...umm...what connections could you possibly get at Stanford that you couldn't get from UCSF? I understand that Stanford basically is a grade-inflated country club in the middle of CA (at least the undegrad is)...but wouldn't UCSF also expose you to excellent physicians, researchers, faculty, private foundations that give grants, etc? I think you're just looking at the "name brand" effect of saying, "I have a degree from Stanford."

In the medical world, UCSF trumps stanford in name recognition/perceived quality in a heartbeat. Stanford might sound better to patients, but if you're going academic go UCSF (if you are a Cali resident of course, otherwise you had better be God's Gift to Medicine {TM} )

ok all of you have said that ucla is not in oc, have you noticed that the op wasnt even talking about ucla?? anyway, the lifestyle in irvine is a bit posh, but, unless you are rich and interested in living out your own soap opera, dont expect to live like the actors in the tv show.
