From what I've been told, you HAVE to have some research to have ANY chance at matching into an integrated plastics program. How true is this? I have pretty good Step 1 (256) and preclinical grades (3.97), but NO research in med school and very little in undergrad. Honestly, I have never been super-excited about research and chose to travel abroad on a medical program between 1st and 2nd year instead of doing research. Do I need to slip some in to strengthen my application or do I have a possibility of matching without it? What about the independent programs..considered more/less competitive?
