when i was a freshman, a girl who lived down the hall from me was really messed up. ex: one time i was like, 'wow, this outfit is awesome, can i borrow it sometime? whered you get it?"
to which she replied: "oh i stole it..." she went on to tell me she stole things quite often, hair supplies, clothes, makeup, etc. she also did drugs...of multiple varieties. she also had SIB (self injurious behavior). aka she cut herself.

all in all she was kinda messed up at the time.

she transferred after freshman year to a school across state. now, she was in a pharm program at my school, and we all thought she was in a pharm program at the school she transferred to, however i creeped her on facebook last night and found out she is now premed and doing research on some big time brain cancer project.

heres the deal, while she was involved in some bad news activities, she always had good grades and was a natural at science. (esp chem)

i can't help but be a) resentful that she will probably get in med school with her shady past, and b) worried that she will treat someone i know in the future.

how do people like this get weeded out? seriously, she can put on a nice face and no one would know shes messed up.

does she deserve to get in med school, EVEN if (and i've thought of this) she's cleaned up her act big time?

Worry about yourself getting into med school and not sabotaging other people's attempts or wishing ill of them

"seriously, she can put on a nice face and no one would know shes messed up"

So do you have a nice face/messed up past? Or do you have a bad face/normal past?

My experience has been that the more perfect someone appears to be, the bigger their closet of skeletons, which is why I tend to distrust most pre-meds and doctors😉

I find it weird when premeds bash other premeds on the biggest premed forum on the planet.

She does deserve to get in if she's cleaned up her act. Maybe more so than your average pre-med. A person who comes out of depression and problems like that has an inner strength that many people do not understand. Nobody cuts themselves and does drugs because they are healthy and happy, yet you act as if she did those things just because she wanted to be a terrible person. If you do not have compassion for people who have had emotional issues in the past, I would think quite deeply about what you believe about medicine and people in general.

In the end, you cannot know who she is any more. She may have changed, she may not have. If she hasn't it will show. If she has, then that's a great thing.

OP get a life of your own...Never worry about something you have no control over, especially if it's none of your business, in which this case it isn't. Stop creeping on other people's facebook and look out for you and yours; you'll live longer..

You should have made your post shorter by saying something like: "wah wah wahhhh wahhhh waaaah. I'm such a jealous n00b. OMG!!! Someone who use to do drugs and had personal problem 20 years ago is now becoming a doctor!!! Only people like me should become a doctor!! BTW everyone, I suck. Really hard."

lol, kinda like people bashing each other for being nerds on an internet forum.

I guess I'm more into bashing traditional pre-meds😀 I look back at myself 10years ago and cringe.

hahahaha no I DID NOT. seriously....it wasn't 20 years ago, it was two years ago, and wow to the people who said i was jealous. wow, do you think that was why i posted this? to complain?

I forget (quite often) that this forum is dominated by really bitter people who project their feelings onto everyone else and have to have competitions about everything. also, yes, people can change, but i do not think people who in the recent past made a hobby out of theft and drug abuse should become md's. that is my opinion

...i wanted other people's thoughts, and i got them.

oh BIG PS, come on, whoever told me to get a life....SERIOUSLY? pot kettle. you all know you creep on facebook. if you don't, gtfo because you're on here. seriously.

Because when you screen 50,000+ people each year. The MCAT isn't capable of probing your brain for every little detail. Some people who are less qualified are going to get in. Thats just the fact in life. Even a few cops do bad things sometimes. Why? No screening process is perfect.

I wouldn't find it surprising considering how many people with ridiculously low MCAT scores are making threads about hoping to get in.
