This is directed to residents/fellows. as a student rep, Ive been recently told to come up with proposals on how to improve the IT department of my medical school. Now, having already ask students and heard some pretty trivial suggestions, id like to know from people that have already gone thru med school and are in their residencies.

my main objective of this study is to recommend changes that can improve learning outcomes for students/ make them better students/future doctors. that outrules one suggestion by a student to have wireless in the carpark. sounded a bit far off.

so the questions are:

what IT infrastructure(s) did u find that benefitted you the most throughout medical school?

was there an IT related item(s) you wish your medical school had in place now that you have graduated?

is there something IT related that you have access to in residency that you wish you could have used in medical school?

no suggestion is too trivial, and please assume we have nothing in place IT wise, cause i want to start fresh.

thanks a bunch folks.

Do you use PDA's or tablet PC's? These are great tools for references and for keeping notes of pt care. If you have wireless in your facility, they also allow for better communication via email access. Tablets can be "interconnected" so "big "brother" can watch what an individual is doing.
