Hey guys i was wondering if DAT tests fewer topics within thermodynamics than the MCAT. I was using the EK 1001 Chemistry to review and get practice for GC, and ran into things not covered too much in detail by chad's video

1) Heat (Convection/Conduction/Radiation)
2) State Functions (Extensive/Intensive Properties)
3) Heat Engines (Pistons etc.)
4) Internal Energy
A) Rotational/Translational/Vibrational Energy...

And i was wondering if there are any other topics in GC that are covered
more/less extensively on DAT than MCAT. Reason I am asking is b/c I am using
the EK Books to cover the basics.

omgod, i used that book as well to study for gen chem before i took my dats but i kept coming across problems that i had NO IDEA HOW TO DO (aka ALL OF THE PROBLEMS in that BOOK). so i ditched it and went to different materails.
i took my DAT in august, and let me tell you , you DO NOT need to know how to do those types of problems in that book, they are TOO difficult for the DAT and you should reallly just stop studying it. it is a complete waste of time and i wish i never wasted my time on it! ever!! btw, i pulled off a 23 in gc.

Thanks for the advice, but could you recommend a good place to get practice problems for gen chem besides destroyer? I want to really make sure these concepts become second nature, so thats why I was using the EK series. 🙂

yea, i used destroyer, chads quizzes, and topscore. i actually didnt even review kaplans questions at all, however u can look over these too if u want. i find kaplans questions to be too complex and intricate (they require you to do too many steps that isnt actually how problems are on the DAT). that should be all you need

1) Heat (Convection/Conduction/Radiation)
know the basics
2) State Functions (Extensive/Intensive Properties)
wouldn't stress about it
3) Heat Engines (Pistons etc.)
did not see one question in 2 exams relating to any mechanical physics, a few QM questions on energy but don't stress about mechanical physics
4) Internal Energy
?????? profit????
A) Rotational/Translational/Vibrational Energy
just in regard to IR spec, wouldn't stress over it

hope that helps a bit, more questions even if they covered one of these topics would be EXTREMELY basic...so just know the general concepts if you are really worried...best of luck
