EK Bio says that the hair on your skin becomes erect when stimulated by the sympathetic nervous system. Is this the systems way of trying to retain heat in a cold environment?

So there are special channels for sweat glands but we still lose water to our surroundings by other means. What role does salt play in the sweat glands? I thought the skin was impermeable to water so what causes us to lose water from our skin from anything other than our sweat glands?
