ive got way too many programs on my list.($) 12-15 seems like a good number, unfortunately I'm willing to live many places, makes picking places rough. that initial thread seems to have been helpful to many on here..just to followup:

anyone, please, advice/insight about any of these programs: i need to get rid of some of these, anyoneknow of any reason a particular program is better/different etc, would be very helpful, not just to me...

tufts vs. BU? i was initially under the impression tufts was much better than BU, now I'm not so sure.

northwestern vs. rush no idea

umich vs. uwisconsin no idea

unc vs.pittsburg vs. ucsd no idea

to confirm, what's wrong with NYU? ive heard people say its not very good, especially in comparison to columbia, sinai, cornell, and einstein, true yes?

thanks

theres not much on scutwork for some of these, and while some have been discussed here, im trying to guage which, within the 2nd tier, might be better for various reasons..

1)Tufts has a better reputation than BU. Although, the margin between these 2 programs has narrowed some since Lou Caplan left to go to the Beth Israel a few years ago.
2)Rush is a better program than Northwestern. Northwestern has a beautiful hospital, an enthusiastic chair, but the VA experience and limited depth of the subspecialties makes it less attractive.
3)Michigan is a top-10 program. Wisconsin is significantly lower down on my list by reputation.
4)UNC is a good program, not great. Pitt is a mediocre program at best. UCSD is in a phenomenal city which make it more attractive than what it is - perhaps the 4th best program in California.

UMich is to UWisc as BMW is to Honda.

But at least U Wisc isn't a Kia...

Uh, UWisc is hardly a Honda. Ford at best. Hondas are rather reliable and have good resell values, which are not Badger qualities.

Actually to repeat what I said before I talked to Harvard and BU medical students and the drug reps who go between the various programs in Boston easily the worst Mass program is UMass which is constantly sending patients to Boston hospitals. It has a chairman recruited directly from a community setting. Of the Boston hospitals Tufts is described often as "shady...crummy...". New England Medical Center is finding it unable to compete with Mass General and people are fleeing the neurology department. It is made up three private hospitals and therefore clincal experience is so-so. BIDMC is the best deal as it is a Harvard program but not as difficult to get into as Partners. It has strengths in stroke and sleep but it is also financially weak and clinical experience is so-so. Partners is competetive but they interview a number of people and is the tops in research and clinical facilities. Anne Young and Martin samuels are world famous. The first year is crazy but it improves and you can go here to anywhere you chose. The BU program has been rebuilt from the time when a lot of its faculty (including Dr Sabin program director at Tufts and Dr Venna Ambulatory Chief at MGH) quit when City Hospital merged with University Hospital. Its a very busy program but given the variety of cases at Boston City Hospital (common to see leprosy and neurocysticercosis) it is probably one of the best clinical programs in the country. Dr Kase who is the new Chair does like to take IMGs and it is very strong in stroke (Kase, Wolf) and movement. A little known fact is that MGH and BU share the same VA hospitals in neurology so that experience (about 6-8 months total) is the same between both prgrams.
A pain attending at Brigham told me that he rated Partners and BU as among the best programs in the country.

Rush definitely has the best neurology residency program in Chicago at this point in time. However, Northwestern is supposedly improving as the chairman - Kessler continues to upgrade the department.

Could you please throw some more light on why UMass redirecting the patients?
Is it because of lack of facilities or just rank bad departmnet staff?
