Well, we are in manhattan where people are generally a little more image concious. Plus, we would mock them mercilessly. We had an attending who carried the fanny pack. He netted an entire skit about the bag...

😀

Do you wear black scrubs and sunglasses in the ED?😀

Its interesting the effect locale and specialty has on image. My field is much more image conscious than general surgery; as I've noted before applicants were scored on appearance and comportment at several fellowship programs.

Anyway, I hope buckley is reading this and sees that the fanny pack would not be welcomed in most places.

We wear prada black scrubs and sunglasses. 😀

Actually, I only wear scrubs when I work overnight or don't have any regular clothes clean but yeah. I digress.

I certainly hope there are no fanny packs. 😀

Previous messages noted and deemed as potential gospel!
 ok, ok, i'll leave my loyal royal blue fanny pack at home.
Interestingly, in my own decision matrix about how I would rank programs, the requirement for a business attire merited a minus 2 points, and those which allow scrubs merited +2
I've never been a fashionista...
And I'm entering an intern year which requires ties for the boys and pretty blouses for the gals. Seriously, if only for the chance to wear scrubs all day, i seriously contemplated surgery and anesthesiology...ob is just too far for me to even fathom for myself

If you like surgery and anesthesia, then how in the world did you end up in Neuro? 🙂

IF only for the chance to wear scrubs all day, i contemplated foregoing my love for Neurology. But at the end of the day, I guess clothes really don't matter that much to me-->What a dumb thing to say! *shame on me*As to how I actually fell in love with Neuro, that's my personal statement!

For the confused people though, Neuro Anes and Pain Medicine seem very interesting crossroads between Anes and Neuro. Neurosurgery, well, I just can't fathom the lifestyle and I honestly think it'll take forever for me to do that burr hole. There's also NeuroOphtha, of course. Interventional neuro rad too. Hmmm....Scrubs?! I wish there would be a surgical treatment for dementia, then I may really go into a surgical field.

Best looking scrubs for me are the dark green ones. I love peds rotation with my winnie the pooh scrubs! A friend of mine showed up in black scrubs for ob gyne call (I honestly don't know who buys black scrubs!), ended up having 4 straight cases of ruptured ectopic pregnancy. His resident ordered him to go home and change! Doctors are a superstitious lot...maybe I should also add that i have a lucky scrub top.

Oh dear. It seems we're just taking away everything you love best.

Another thing to avoid like the plague is store-bought scrubs, especially those with cute patterns on them. They, too, are reserved for nurses and other allied health personnel. Stick to the personality-less standard issue scrubs from your hospital laundry. 🙂

I was just thinking the same thing: "Winnie the Pooh scrubs? I thought buckley was male?!"

buckley...heed the advice above. Printed scrubs in the US are for nurses only. Store bought scrubs are also derogated, so on the off chance you ever have the need to wear them (and you should during your Prelim year) please wear hospital issued ones.

Save yourself from being the weird foreigner. Its SDN's new motto!

 Oh my lord, I am going to be that weird foreigner intern!!!

whew...and i thought only the US highschools were tough...

I hate store-bought scrubs too...but, this might raise your brows more,a friend of mine actually made my winnie-the-pooh scrubs for me....awwwww.... *i'm an XX chromosome here*

All of a sudden I understand why a friend of mine left his residency to go back home and all he could tell me was , "everything was great. but it just wasn't me..."

ok, I guess I'll just have to live with wearing a blouse and carrying a navy blue Littmann Classic II. Then again, it's only for a year, and then i'm off to Neurology where people wearing green polka dot bowties are not only accepted but even revered. Something tells me I made the right choice after all!

Well, now, I agree with the printed scrub thing. However, in the ED, many people do wear online bought scrubs. One, our hospital skimps on providing people with scrubs. Two, many women don't like the way the hosptial scrubs fit (aka horribly). So they order physician scrubs (I have no idea what this means).

Alot of the male doctors wear them as well. They look fine if you stay away from the crazy colors. In general, blue, green and maybe black are all you can get away with as an MD.

eye candy (i.e. attractive medical/nursing students) 😀

White coat with INNER POCKETS. I love those!!!

As long as they don't look like these, you'll be ok in most places:

I disagree. I think this should be the standard scrubs in your ED and anyone that is not wearing them has to wear a labcoat :meanie::meanie: How else can I show off my tattoos and muscular physique *confused*. Don't forget the body oil that has to be applied to your biceps q4h while wearing these scrub tops.

Body oil Q4 is too much and you will look too slick and shiney

Can anyone tell me how to correctly size TED hose. I am thinking I want closed toes knee length - I am not sure what size I am

THe guy has a pencil neck too, should have gone with a round collar - that V collar emphasizes his skinny neck
