I'm currently a bio major entering my third year with a ~3.1cum gpa
The psych requirements and my upper division bio requirements seem to lap over pretty well.
So far, I have aced every psych prereq class I have taken and I believe I will end up earning a very high gpa in my psych major(if i choose to take it). I'm also genuinely interested in the field. How will adcom view this? Am I at an advantage over other applicants? If i do choose to double major, there will be a semester where i will have to take 3 science classes together. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't expect the second major to give you any sort of major advantage over other applicants, or at least not enough of an advantage to pursue it for that reason. Honestly, if I were you, I would be doing everything I could to ace those upper level bio courses and boost your GPA, which would be easier if you were only focusing on one major.

i guess i was hoping that maybe double majoring in a non science major could show that i'm well rounded in my studies??

It might show a little bit of well-roundedness but that can be more easily viewed in ECs and work/volunteer experience.

Take the courses if you like them, not because they look nice.

Agreed. If it's something you just really want to do, then go for it, but it's not going to be your golden ticket into pharmacy school. Being well-rounded is nice, but having a sweet GPA is a lot nicer as far as adcoms are concerned. If your #1 priority is getting into pharmacy school, I'd think long and hard about whether it's worth it to you to take on the extra course load when your GPA is shaky as it is.

thanks for the advice guys. I'm meeting with a counselor to help make my decision. Does anyone else have any advice for me?

I actually majored in Bio and minored in Psych. For me, it was either take 5 random upper div classes (just to fulfill unit reqs) or 5 upper div psych classes and get a minor. Since I was also interested in Psych, I did that. Not sure how much more work double-majoring is, but if you want, minoring in it would allow you to take a bunch of Psych classes without the extra load.

Plus, like you said, you aced the previous psych classes. In my experience, all my psych classes were easy, so they never really interfered with my bio studies.

yea i went and talked to a councilor and i decided to minor in psych. I only need one more class to be finished so its kind of a no brainer.
thanks!

If you can get your GPA to a 3.4 and get both majors, you'll stand out from the crowd and I think it would help your case
