Neurofibromatosis Type I:

Chromosome where the defect is found: 17

Number of letters in Neurofibromatosis: 17

Eponym: von Recklinghausen disease

Number of letters in von Recklinghausen: 17

I am not making this up.

That's ridiculously cool.

Can I cite you on that?

why/where would you cite a medical mnemonic??

he's not the first to observe it... also neurofibromatosis type 2 has 22 letters and is caused by a defect on chromosome 22

I was very excited when I noticed that Friedrich's ataxia is found on chromosome 9, and Friedrich has 9 letters. I'm sure you can imagine my disappointment when I realized that Gunner Training had misspelled it and it's really Friedreich's ataxia, with 10 letters.

But the good news is that Von Hippel Landau disease has 3 words, and the defect is on chromosome 3.

We get it, you bought first aid, congrats.

Are you serious? This stuff is in First Aid? If it is, I discovered it independently.

(goes and checks FA)

Damn it, you're right. Well, except they didn't notice that neurofibromatosis also has 17 letters. I shouldn't have looked; I was about to try and find one for APKD1 (my current mnemonic is "Polly the adult has 16 Kidneys!") but now I see that "polycystic kidney" has 16 letters.

It's in First Aid? Never noticed it, crazy. Shows what I've absorbed...

They might have known that neurofibromatosis is 17 letters but since there is a NF1 and NF2, they didn't want to cause confusion? maybe?

They also don't have the one for Friedrich's ataxia.

I keep a list of the mnemonics I use on my site. And the only thing toolier than the phrase "I keep a list of the mnemonics I use on my site" would be blatantly stealing one off of sdn.

Didn't know it was also in first aid, though.

Don't worry about it, nothing can make you more of a tool than the fact that you have a blog, so you're pretty much maxed out in that category already.
