I thought it might be interesting to compare High School stats to your current college stats. Meaning GPA and what your focus was, and is now that you've decided to become a doctor.
I start college in the fall so I cant answer this but...

example) In my early years of High school I wanted to become an engineer, and I liked to party and what not. GPA 3.9. Now focusing on my career path Im majoring in Chemistry have a 2.9 GPA and like to read long novels.
(you get the picture)

Might be fun to see how many of you have changed or stayed the same.
😛

In high school I had no clue what I wanted to "become", I was a huge slacker and never did homework, studied, etc.... GPA was 2.7. I always knew that I would get in to my local university easily based on my act score... (didn't study for the act either, and who does?). I did certainly know that I would "become something" though.

Now that my grades "matter", I've decided to take things more seriously. GPA ~3.8. I'm still a slacker at heart though.

No its not going to be fun, because every other person on here has a 5.0 and 50Z MCAT. Do I really need to be reminded of how dumb I am?

High school:
3.95~ Unweighted, 4.5 weighted
2300 on the SAT

College:
3.82
?? on the MCAT

I used to want to be a writer!! Or work in the foreign service. Travel and write. Still sounds pretty fun 🙂

Not everyone's performance in high school and college will be correlated. For example, I was a slacker in college. I never studied for anything except AP exams at the end of the year. I did homework the morning it was due, and usually started major projects a couple of days before they were due. Despite that, I still managed to have a 3.89/4.0 (94/100) GPA.

High school and college are two entirely different things. Doing well in one doesn't necessarily mean you'll do well in the other.

High School ~ 2.33 No kidding 😱

My "BCPM" high school classes (I have my transcripts right in front of me and there are a lot worse grades than these in others subjects):
Health C
Geometry D+
Geometry F
Algebra 2 D
Biology C-
Algebra 2 D
Biology B-
Advanced Algebra C-
Chemistry C-
Advanced Algebra C
Chemistry C
Oceanography D-
Geology D-
Never took any physics in high school.
Oddly enough, I took 3 AP classes scoring two 3's and one 4 (because my friends were taking them). The kicker is that I got an F in the class that I got a 4 in (meaning colleges recognize it but my high school doesn't!), a D in another and an A in the last.

My SAT (older style): was mid 1300s

I took some years off and worked and came back to college and now my cumulative GPA is 3.9 something. If I had started college right after high school I would have probably failed and dropped out. My family had no interest in grades or school (and still don't) so I managed to have a great time in high school with zero worries. I am graduating college and applying currently.

In high school I wanted to hang out with my friends and have a good time. In college I knew coming in that I wanted to be serious and become a doctor. My grades in college are a result of it being on my terms now. In high school I was always a learner (I am a strong reader and have always enjoyed reading anything I could get my hands on), so it wasn't that I had no potential; I just had no reason to do well in high school.

Long story, but I thought it was funny amongst the stories of "slackers" with their 3.8s.

High school:

3.4 GPA with crazy upward trend
1760 SAT
Class rank <30 out of 489
Few Honors classes
No AP's
No EC's

Generally lazy and apathetic. Had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.

College:

3.73 GPA

High school: Maybe a 3.3-3.5?
I got my fair share of C's, and didn't even know studying existed. I did the absolute minimum amount of work possible to prevent parents from getting upset (they still did), would forget/not do a significant chunk of assignments, etc., etc. I had to switch into a regular chem class from honors chem because I was getting a D. How did I earn this D, you might ask? By doing horribly on a test of "match the major discovery/experiment with the famous chemist"...WTF? I remember having math exams and, after not paying attention in class and not reading/doing the work, I would think "oh yeah, I have a math test next period...I should probably look through the book".

Senior year, I finally shaped up and really regretted the previous 3 years, and began to think I might want to be a doctor...

College: 3.95, ECs, etc.

High school: 2.5 or so. I didn't really go to class for the first two years and didn't really care about school. I started going more regularly my junior year and getting good grades. I didn't take the SAT. I took the ACT and got like a 28 or something... I had no intention of going to college so I didn't care.

College: 3.98 I'm 25 now so I think that has a lot to do with it. I don't really study more than when I was in high school, but I take school more seriously now. I go to class, I turn in all assignments, etc.

I miss HS, best days of my life...😀

High school:
Unweighted GPA: 3.83
Weighted GPA: 4.43
35 on ACT

College:
cGPA: 3.83
sGPA: 3.85
MCAT: 30

I miss high school. My numbers applying to college were competitive. Maybe it's just the SDN community I'm comparing myself to, but applying to med school? They're mediocre.

High School: Hardly went to class, drank a lot, etc.
GPA - 1.7
SAT - 1280

College: Stopped partying and discovered my interests
GPA - 3.95
MCAT - 35S

Medical School: Starts in the fall

High School: 1.85
College: 3.75

It took me 5 years of construction to realize i should follow my dream of being a doctor.

Having a wife and an 8 month old boy keeps me motivated to get good grades.

High School: had no idea what i wanted to do and messed around a lot...it was a pretty ****ty high school in general

Unweighted GPA ~ 3.55, Weighted GPA - 3.689
despite the relatively poor GPA i was still ranked 18 out of 680
SAT: 1980

College: much more focused
cGPA: 3.71
sGPA: 3.74
MCAT: 32

HS: 4.25, 2240 SAT
College: 3.93, MCAT in august...

High school seemed like a joke in retrospect. Didn't really study; college is a bit more demanding but not the caliber of difficulty I thought it would be. However, the fear of not getting into med school is much more of a driving force now than ever.

HS: ~ 0.8 and GED'ed out of HS

college: overall GPA = 3.82, and BCPM science GPA = 3.86 / (MCAT 33 s)

I took a bunch of years off in between, and grew up.

My college GPA is currently 0.03 lower than my high school GPA.

Interesting how many people here did poorly in HS, but went on to do very well in college. I don't know about anyone else, but my disappointment in myself once I matured a bit definitely played a role in what I've done since.

high school- 3.0 1000 SAT
college- 3.91 in the spring I'll be a senior

Not high school, but freshman/sophomore when I thought I wanted to be engineer = 3.3

Summer after sophomore year and Junior Year after deciding to do MD = 4.0

Its funny what some motivation/fear can do to your grades.

In high school I had 3.2 GPA, and didn't know what the hell I was going to be until middle of my senior year.
That's when I decided to become a doctor(before that I always thought i'd be a fighter pilot 😳), although a little late for SATs and college applications, I did 3 semesters of community college with 3.6 gpa and now I'm in university with 3.3 gpa trying to bring it up by the time I submit my applications to med school.
