I know I know, another annoying question/post from an applicant, but I just want to make my decision soon, so I can give another applicant a seat. Which one would you choose?

UIC- Chicago campus and in-state tuition
Jefferson
NYMC

Medical Interests: surgery, want more of clinical focus in med. education, urban environment, Spanish speaking/diverse patient pop.

Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks

UIC seems like a good idea. I was accepted there and when my doctor heard, (he went to U of Chicago) he said that some of the best clinicians he's met graduated from UIC. Also, you'll save a lot of money

i can't speak personally for any of the schools (nice work getting into three good programs, btw) but i would echo the previous post about tuition. now, i am the first to advocate not letting $$$ decide where you go to school, but if all other things are equal (ie. how you like the curriculum, student body, city, facilities, etc) then i would encourage you to save the cash. if, however, there are things about the other two schools that you like more or you simply feel that you "fit in" better at one of them, take the hit to the wallet--you'll be glad you did.

bottom line is that you'll get great exposure to surgery and spanish-speaking indigent populations at any big city school. good luck--this is a big decision. let us know when you decide.

best,

UIC. no question. turning down in-state tuition to go to an average school is pointless. best of luck!!

thanks so much for your advice- It is much appreciated! 👍

Well ONE point in paying the higher tuition is that jefferson probably has a better match rate, and youd probably just have to be an average student there to match into surg. Whereas at UIC you might have to be more towards the top of your class, which may be hard. You should compare the match lists. Either Way, NYMC offers you high cost and lower match rates most likely, so i would eliminate that. Jefferson IS more competitive, and IS NOT just an average school. It is an above average school in my opinion as an MS1 at a similar school. UIC IS average reputation wise in my book, but all jefferson buys you is name and match power.
