So let me make it clear - I really try to keep in touch with vets I've worked with long after I work with them. Last summer I worked at two places and I'm really good friends with one of the vets, plus his wife, who loves me (haha). However, I also worked at a wildlife clinic where my primary contact was the manager and not the vet, and she's not keeping in touch at all. I'm in a different country now, so I have tried emailing and Facebook-messaging (she does this, don't worry) a dozen different times since last summer, and she just won't even acknowledge me at all. At the very beginning she sent a reply saying she was really busy and would reply to me later on, but now just seems to ignore me.

It's really sad because I had a great time at the wildlife place and really liked her and she and I got a bit distant by the end of my stay with them - at the time I thought it was the problems she was going through with some of the other staff but maybe I did something to offend her? Should I give up trying to contact her?

I'm not sure if this post is about getting a LOR or stalking.

Either way, keep calling.

HAHA. Yeah, it would be nice to get a LOR. I guess she's like a potential LOR. But in general I don't like the idea of just never hearing from them again?

I was in a situation recently where I was called in for an interview and then emailed the next day for a follow up (long story short, the interviewer went home sick and failed to contact me in any way, and so after driving 2h to get there, they felt bad and the other boss gave me an interview).

I never heard from the original interviewer again, after many phone calls, emails and messages... not even a simple "you didn't get the job" just nothing (In fact, I've never even met her/him aside from speaking on the phone) . I'm sort of work/traveling at the moment so I was pretty desperate for work... but I just looked else where until I found work and stopped trying to contact that b*tch....*ahem* i mean the interviewer lol.

Basically, my advice would be to go past the manager and try and get the contact for the DVM if you want to get an LOR. Otherwise, don't bother wasting your time, its probably not worth the effort if you don't intend to go back and work for them, and you'll probably find some better LOR in the mean time.

If you do want to stay in contact though rather then closing the door completely, maybe send them a xmas card every year, or donate some supplies so they remember who you are, sort of thing.

I think that if someone isn't getting back to you after about 3 messages you should just let it go. Either they don't want to continue the relationship with you, they are crazy busy, or they have a personal problem and they have to let other things go for a while. Maybe they just got diagnosed with a serious health condition or had a family member die or are facing foreclosure or something. Or maybe they just don't want to maintain contact. In either case, continuing to contact them is only going to make things more awkward and make you less likeable to them.

👍
agreed - seems a little stalker'ish, tbh

Seriously, drop it. Besides, if you're having problems contacting them now, just wait until it's 8 hours until the LOR deadline for VMCAS and they haven't submitted their letter yet.
