Is anyone surprised by the number of woman seeming to apply to medschool this year. I know the ratio for applicants was around 50:50 last year but at my MCATS 80% were women and at my two interviews 80% were women. Is anyone else noticing this? I think its fantastic but its definetly somewhat surprising considering the typical preconception that the field is largely male-dominated.

i think youre experiences have been somewhat atypical. i noticed either 50/50 or more males at my ints. anything over 60% women for an applicant class is unlikely...

I've had both experiences. 50/50 at some interviews, and way skewed towards women at others. They say women are more than half of med students anyway and growing. Med school guys will get to be such pimps after nerding around for decades.

At my last 4 interviews, it has been 80-90% women interviewing with me! It's been freaking me out!

I think this trend has emerged over the last few years. In fact, I believe that last year, for the first time, there were more women matriculating to med school compared to men. I think I read that in the MSAR.

right, but its would be more like 52/28, not 70/30... therefore, i would think these accounts are outliers.

52/28...so what are the remaining 20%? That CAN'T be a rounding error! 🙂

My current degree program is heavily populated with women. My husband calls it Geeky Man's Paradise. Two buildings full of attractive, intelligent, sexually liberated (how does HE know?) women and about four single, smiling guys...

All of the interviews that I have had have been at least 50% male.

My interviews have all been mostly males. It's nice for me. 😉
