I have the Kaplan Blue Book, but haven't been going through the bio in it. I've been using Schaum's Outline and have been going through it in detail. Is Schaum's sufficient for scoring well, or should I combine it with Kaplan?

Thanks,
IndDent 🙂

Well learn kaplan first then supplement the shaums with it after. Make sure u have Kaplan down 100% then move on to other books.

Kaplan blue book? Which one is that. I have the red one from barnes and noble and the white one fron the course...

I'm sure the red book is the same as the blue, but newer. Somewhere around 900 pages? I bought it from barnes and noble 2 years ago and then took the class and got the white book. They are exactly the same, so don't worry about that.

I solely studied from the kaplan book. When I took Kaplan practice tests, I never scored more than an 18 on the biology section, but I took the test last week and got a 22. It was so much easier! There were questions so easy that I thought they were trick questions.

But Kaplan's angle ranking and math practice tests are a lot easier than the real thing.

what is the kaplan blue book btw? the one you can buy in the kaplan website for 65$?

I'd definitely use both Kaplan and Schaum's. I went through Kaplan first, then used Schaum's and focused mostly on topics not covered in much detail in Kaplan. Also, if you're more of a visual learner (like I am), Examkracker's bio review book can be handy. I just enjoy the pretty color diagrams, lol 😛

Yes, the Kaplan blue book is available on their site for $65. I ordered it from Amazon.com, it was cheaper there 🙂 I think it's basically the same as the Kaplan white book (from the course). The blue book is the 3rd edition while the red book is 2nd edition (I'm not sure how much has changed between the two).

Definitely get the Kaplan blue book and read over the bio section quickly to get a general idea on what is covered on the test. Then I say just get out your college bio book and read over the topics you're not familiar with and take notes. I recommend Campbell's Biology because it has really nice diagrams and helpful captions that looking at them is good enough. I bought Examkracker for biology, which was helpful for physiology but it doesn't have anything on photosynthesis, plant stuff, and ecology and evolution. My roommate was studying for the GRE so I used her Kaplan subject test review for biology. It's basically the same as the biology section in the blue book but more in detail.
