I've taken some AAMC practice exams and I'm surprised to see that some questions don't use the correct/standard symbols to depict some things. For instance the reaction arrow ----> is sometimes indicated by ® or angle theta indicated with q. So my question is have you guys seen anything similar on test day or is this just a flaw of the practice FLs.

I think that AAMC owes it to examinees to use unambiguous symbols, i mean the VR has enough ambiguity so the PS & BS should be spared...

Na+(aq) + e– ® Na(s)

2Al(OH)3(s) + heat ® Al2O3(s) + 3H2O(g)

nsinq1 = nsinq2

Thanks..

I think that's just an error on their practice tests. I don't remember any weird symbols on the actual test. In fact, I remember them using the reaction arrows in a number of problems. Hopefully, the AAMC hasn't changed the MCAT to include a problem deciphering component.
