Many of us throughout the country are caught up in away rotations, the ERAS process, or a tough night on call and I just wanted to take a second to lend my thoughts, prayers, and support to all the residents, attendings, nurses and staff who remain in the flood zone, have volunteered to go, or work in cities where refugees have been taken and are working around the clock in some of the toughest conditions imaginable. Many probably had their own homes destroyed and are away from their families who evacuated. I've tried to put myself in the position of having to decide who to treat and knowing that some won't make it despite the best of efforts. As the situation there stabilizes in the coming weeks to months I hope the stories will make it to SDN so we can all learn from this. Apparently, the population of Baton Rouge has doubled already with all the refugees and we've seen the stress it has put on Dallas, Houston, etc. I heard on the news that 90,000 sq mi are flooded which would be the equivalent to wiping out the British Isles. Unreal.
