Going into my 3rd week of medical school and the volume is incredible!!! Takes some time to get used to this pace. In every class we are learning a ton of stuff. I feel like every professor thinks we are only taking his class. Right now we are taking gross, embryo, histo, ethics, doctoring, radiology, and biochem. Gross takes up so much time and we have to keep up with everything else too. And it is only going to get worse. Well had to vent....back to studying.

I agree. I'm going into my fourth week of first year with my first exam on the 8th and it is amazing the volume of knowledge we have to learn. The material is not hard, its just the volume. I am still adjusting and wish me luck on my first exam!

Take a deep breath and drink a beer- it's not that bad.

For me, taking a couple hours a day to understand the major concepts has worked well, then filling in the minutae on the weekends while watching some football. To each their own, but just make sure you have enough time to get out and do some stuff completely unrelated to school.

Our motto here at Tulane is- work hard, play hard!

If you think first year is hard, wait until 2nd year. 🙂 We covered an entire immunology course in 2.5 weeks. It's somewhere between 200 and 300 pages of notes. And I thought 1st year was bad.....
Anyway, once you get a routine going, it isn't that bad. For example, if you don't have a test coming up, still get up on saturday and sunday and study first thing. If you suck it up and get a little bit done, you have the entire rest of the day to goof around. 🙂

 hmm, well I think it's both hard and a lot! I guess you should count yourself lucky 😉

Maybe it's my non-bio background. I'm assuming for now that things will start to work out in a few weeks time. I can't really be bothered panicing yet (I'm too busy!)... 🙂

are you saying those three prob sets this week are taking up your time? 😕

Tomorrow begins my second week of classes. Last week, my brain was still fuzzy from a whole summer of watching TV and playing video games, so I was really scared about school. This week, I feel a lot better. I've been trying to review a little every day, and keeping on top of things has given me more of a sense of control. I'm still nervous, because our first exam is in three weeks, and I don't know how I'll be able to hold four weeks worth of info in my head. But I figure I'll work it out somehow. That's why they gave us pass/fail for the first year, right? 😀

Hang in there!

well done on passing!

Btw what's the pass mark at your respective schools? At mine it's 50%.

it's at 75%... but it's not as bad as it seems. there are "grades" for attendance and homework. talk about being back in high school! not that i'm complaining... without them i'd be sweating bullets during exams 🙂

yeah we had some of that in 1st year too, like just turn up, sign yourself in and cash in the marks 😀
