Currently an superhost for a vacation rental. Should I mention this in my app/interviews?

Learned a lot since I designed the place, created the listing, manage the listing, and communicate with all guests. Also with upkeep and maintenance.

Only reason I doubt I should include this are ethical and legalities of Airbnb. Don’t want to back myself in a corner when asked about it.

Thanks!

Doubt many (close to zero in my mind) people cares. Call yourself a manager of a rental property if that makes the wording better.

If this is a job that you do that takes up a chunk of your time then I think you should include it as paid employment. Call it manager of rental property or something and list your duties. It won't be the most relevant thing on your app but people put other non-medical jobs so I don't see why you should leave out your employment unless you don't have enough space for the rest of your more important activities

I’m assuming that you’re a Super host for AirBnb. If so, that’s an achievement, but may not be understood without you providing some explanation. Simply saying that you’re a property manager would not do it justice.

Seems like a weird thing to include on a professional school application - I'm not sure what an application reviewer is supposed to get learn about you by disclosing that piece of information.

I don't think the application is a place to simply vomit out everything that you're involved with. Your goal should be to show things about yourself that speak to your ability to work as a professional and/or demonstrate your interest in being a physician. Not all things - including those that require substantial amounts of time/effort - are useful in that regard.

The varied responses here illustrate quite well what you will be facing. My suggestions:
  • What's a Super Host? People who don't know what it is don't GAF; people who do are impressed. You'll need to explain what that is in one or two short sentences.
  • You mentioned possible illegalities or ethics violations. My understanding is that this is very location-specific. So be thoroughly prepared to discuss the specifics of your particular rental -- hopefully why yours is legal. Or if it isn't, get your spin ready... Many jurisdictions charge hotel taxes and if you pay these, your Airbnb would then be operating legally. Or there are access-right issues with condo communal facilities. Or similar -- But know. If you're operating illegally and making excuses for it, this won't look good for you.
  • You mentioned how much you learned. Make sure your description illustrates that and why/how your experiences will make you a better physician. I can see: foresight, initiative, guest service, responsibility, attention to detail, organization and time management, conflict resolution...

Thank you for everyones input! Your responses are similar to what went through my head, but wasn’t sure if the cons weighed more than the pros of mentioning this activity.

As for what Superhost is, it’s a status that’s awarded to hosts who have provided outstanding experiences to their guests. To acquire this standing, the host needs to have an average of 4.8+/5 ratings over 6 months from minimum 10 guests (reviewed every couple months). I am rated on the checks-in process, host communication, listing accuracy, thoughtfulness of home, hospitality, value, and how clean the place is.

If it helps, the listings are really successful with almost 75% of the month booked 1-2 months in advance. These are not rooms, but duplexes that go for couple hundred a night.

I would like to put this as an achievement and show case my skills in customer service, organization, foresight.

This does require planning, initiative, responsiveness, deadlines, customer service, and coordination with others. Those are all skills that are valued. Showing that you've honed those skills in a profit-making venture is nothing to sneeze at. You will need to define "super host" as I, for one, did not know what that was. I would, after understanding what it is, respect it.

List it as "other" and describe yourself as an entrepreneur who is handling vacation rentals and has had excellent success in customer satisfaction as you've detailed for us.

I think it's great if you explain it a little and describe why it matters. I was just looking at booking an Air BnB yesterday. So I can appreciate what goes into it, I think anyone could if it's explained.
