Thoughts on Caduet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What does everyone think of Caduet? I think it's an interesting combination... amlodipine and atorvastatin?

Who gives a **** about the combination, one molecule is available generically, and atorvastatin is on its way. Please enlighten me as to why amlodipine and simvastatin wouldn't be just as "interesting"? Do you think naproxen and sumatriptan is an interesting combination? I do not.

lol, it was purely for money grabbing and patent protection. I was working for Pfizer R&D when this was approved. Hmm, the party and free food... 😛 Hey, this country operate on capitalism, it works. 😀

BiDil is my favorite in the last few years. Let’s take two very inexpensive long time generics and combine them under a new marketing campaign and charge $400.00 for 30 tablets. Awesome example of the greed of the pharmaceutical industry.

Although Treximet (naproxen and sumatriptan) may become my new favorite because it is still on the market. It is way to inconvenient to take my generic imitrex and a couple of tablets out of my $4.00 for a bottle of 100 naproxen OTC. I must have it all in one pill for a premium of 40%.

lol

Not Zegerid?

Hmmmm....Zegerid is another good one. I took my son to the doctor the other day and there was a Zegrid rep in the elevator. He had a big bag that said Zegrid on it and someone asked him what it was. He started into his spiel and it was all I could do not to say something. I let him have his little moment...I figure he gets enough crap being a Zegrid rep he doesn't need any more from a random pharmacist in the elevator.

It was so tempting!

:meanie::meanie:

You know.... if a hospital had a certain % of preferred racial population, the manufacturer used to significantly discount Bidil...like 10 cents a tab. I wasn't sure if that was legal...

scam. Same with other combo products like lotrel etc. Also products like dexvenlafaxine and levocetirizine. I go out of my way to inform patients when they pick up products like this and about 70% of the time we will switch them to the cheaper alternative.

We've got this neurotic patient who insists that Caduet be dispensed in the original, unit-count bottle. If we don't process the person's trial card, he/she will say that we are trying to rob him/her or something like that- even though there isn't an automatic way to process a trial card.

He/she says that he/she will call Pfizer on us, because Pfizer wouldn't like it if they knew that we were dispensing Caduet outside of its original bottle.

:scared:

Thankfully the person's trial card just ran out. 😀

, he/she will say that we are trying to rob him/her or something like that-

We had a medicaid patient who had a yearly deductable that was only like $250 or so. One day in early January he came in and complained that his geodon, depakote etc etc had high copays. We explained to him that, just like last year, he had a deductable to meet. He responded with:

"YOU'RE TRYING TO GIVE ME A SEIZURE"

His logic was pretty solid I guess, we were agitating him and not giving him his meds for free.

Although, I always pictured "trying to give someone a seizure" involving lots of strobe lights😕

Perhaps you find it impressive that the guy on television can split into two and totally avoid the tree (I think that is what happens, nevertheless, it is something extra magical to signify a true BREAKTHROUGH in modern medicine). This, of course, happens only because he is now able to take care of his cholesterol and blood pressure ALL WITH ONE PILL (what the hell is a "pill" anyway?). As always, this is what I refer to as the only INNOVATION we can expect from the pharmaceutical industry.......

hey taking less pills with antiretrovirals work right? Less pill load, better adherence! I am forever an optomist

Adherence to ART needs to be over 90 percent to be effective, so once daily might not always be better. If you think someone can be compliant with twice-daily dosing, that gives them a little more wiggle room.

there are cats out there who are not compliant, for those, combo pills work might be ok
treximet isnt a bad idea, if some1 has a migraine and feels nauseus, they might not want to take multiple pills....however, while ragging on treximet is ok, why not also rag on Dr. Reddys who has kept the generic price still high on sumitriptan? people love to hate on big pharma, but its the generic companies that are running the racket

...who are owned by big pharma 1-99% of the time.

58.3% of my statistics are made up on the spot. But I'm pretty sure the above is accurate.

Is Reddy's a subsidiary of anyone? I know for a fact Mylan is its own entity and I think it's the biggest one. Greenstone doesn't even try to hide the fact who owns them. They use the exact same tableting and packaging for their generics as poppa Pfizer.

Well, you're excused since you're an Okie and can't figure it out properly..
