I just wanted to get anyone's thought on LSU...particularly people that have visited there, interviewed there, or have attended (or currently attend) there.

I have already applied there at the suggestion of my brother who lives outside of New Orleans. Anyways, just wanted to get a feel for the school. Any comments would be appreciated.

I interviewed there this past November and I loved it. Everyone I talked to said it is a very strong clinical school. At my interview they told me you will see patients your first year. I know they have a new Dean as of this year though. Dr. Ritchie retired a few months ago. I have not met him or talked to him yet. I'm a Louisiana resident and the price for in-state is amazing. I'm hoping to get accepted there this year.

Good info. I am a Louisiana resident too and also hope to attend there. But note that LSU accepts very few out of state applicants.

That's good to hear that the clinical aspect is strong. Seeing patients your first year? Very cool! In what capacity exactly?

I do know that LSU only accepts up to 5 out of state per year. Pretty tough but I would really enjoy to at least interview there.

How difficult was the chalk carving exercise?

It wasn't too bad. I was worried they would be standing over your shoulder watching every move but Dr. Ritchie actually left us all alone. He came back in a few min late and joked that we had a few extra minutes no one else had received. All in all it was very laid back. I practiced for about a month doing a few chalks every day.

LSU is a wonderful school!

The dentistry school here is one of the best in Louisiana. The college campus is GREAT and absolutely beautiful all year round. Tons of things that you can walk to off campus and downtown Baton Rouge is about 1-2 miles from LSU campus.

I would highly recommend LSU for any student interested in Dentistry.

There are also a lot of dentists that are alumni of LSU or love LSU students. I think I read somewhere that Dr Dalys office did internships or was actively seeking LSU dentistry students/grads.

LSU is in New Orleans, not Baton Rouge

Thank god for someone correcting him/her. Lol but I think this person is solely speaking about LSU, Louisiana State University. Not the actual School of Dentistry, which is located in the ghettos of New Orleans. I can say this because I pass by it every day. Haha it's not a pretty campus. Don't listen to the person above. LSU is an awesome university filled with festive students and excitement. LSU School of Dentistry, on the other hand, is not the same as the university located in Baton Rouge.

LSU Dental School is not located in the ghetto. I live a minute away on St. Johns Bayou and City Park. Its just diverse like the rest of New Orleans. 20K a year for tuition is the best part of the school; second cheapest in the country. I love New Orleans. Geaux Tigers!!!
